Hey everyone, has anyone had a baby or is pregnant from ivf with their second child after successfully having a baby through ivf. Can you share your experience please, how many tries did it take, etc xx

Ivf for second child
I’m 27 weeks pregnant with my second ICSI baby. Despite being 3 years older than when we conceived our first (34) we had a much easier time second time around. My first took 3 years, a miscarriage and a few cancelled/failed cycles. This time we had one failed FET with an embryo from the cycle our son was from and then did a fresh cycle immediately after which was successful and resulted in my current pregnancy. We started IVF again with the FET in Feb and I was pregnant again by March so it took just 1 month this time!
congratulations! That's so good to hear! Wow so they started yoir fresh cycle again straight away? Was your first fresh transfer or fet? Im similar age to you, I was 34 when my first was transferred, 36 now. I have 2 frozen embryos from the first round but really hoping dont need to do a fresh cycle x
Thanks, it was a pleasant surprise when it all went so smoothly this time. I did a natural FET first so no drugs just my own hormones which made it really easy for me and meant we didn't need to delay going on to the next cycle. Unfortunately that embryo did not take. We had one other frozen embryo but it was lower quality than the one that failed so we decided to go for a fresh cycle next because we wanted to do an egg collection with my eggs as young as possible and we got one good quality embryo from that cycle which is the one I am pregnant with now. We still have that last frozen embryo which we need to decide what to do with but I think assuming (touch wood) all goes smoothly with this delivery then our family will be complete with 2 kids.
Hi Anisah. Hopefully you will get some replies to your post. Just wanted to wish you good luck when you try again. Diane
Im on my 3rd and final egg collection for a second baby. Started trying again at 38, now 40 and have seen a decrease in quality of embryos although still getting good egg numbers. I had 1 egg collection with my little girl, she was my 3rd transfer.
Currently 38+1 with our second icsi baby, and age 35 (36 in Nov) and this was a medicated cycle. It was our third and last embryo, we used embryo glue, as we did with our first frozen try (our second embryo, he's now 2.5yrs, age 33 I think) which resulted in our first icsi baby which was a medicated cycle. We had an early loss from our first embryo which was a fresh transfer.
Hi Anisah, I just wanted to wish you luck in your journey. I’m in a similar position as you, trying for second. My first was born on the first cycle. For second, we have had a failed cycle where none of my eggs fertilised. My husband has had a varicocele ligature and we are hoping to have a bit more luck with the cycle we are doing this month. I hope it all works out for you x
I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd icsi baby.
I had a freeze all cycle 6 years ago and my first natural fet failed but my 2nd natural fet gave me my son.
I had blastocysts left from that same cycle and did a natural fet in December 21 which failed and I had a 2nd natural fet jan 22 which worked and We meet our baby girl very soon.
Good luck trying for baby number 2, sending lots of baby dust ❤️
Hi AnisahP,
We've been very lucky with FETs. Our first fresh cycle when I was 34 ended in a chemical pregnancy, but we were successful with a FET a couple of months later. Little one is now 2 years old. We had 3 frozen embryos left and we transferred one in May which is doing well so far (almost 20 weeks). Good luck with your journey. I hope you get lucky with a FET too x
Thank u! congratulations! That's great! Ive had my son with FET too. Hoping to do FET again. Was your fet successful first time for the second pregnancy?xx
Currently pregnant with my second (16 weeks) after 2 rounds of IVF. Took 3 rounds for the first one and alot of waiting inbetween rounds. This time I just did it back to back.
Hi! I currently have a beautiful ten week old baby girl in my arms after having our second icsi baby. I won’t lie to you, the second time was a lot harder than the first. Our eldest daughter happened first time, but this one took three failed FETs and a chemical from a new fresh cycle before another successful FET. There was a lot of heartache but it was totally worth it ❤️ Good luck on your journey xx
Hiya, I'm finding the second so much harder! Same as you, our baby girl was born following our first IVF ICSI cycle in 2020 and we've been trying for our second child since 2021 and just completed our third failed round for baby number 2 (2 FET and one fresh). I'm feeling it will never happen again for us after being so lucky with number 1. Did you get your second on your fifth try?
hello! Yes, it was our fifth attempt second time round - three FETs, then a fresh then it was the next FET after the fresh that took. She’s just coming up to Devon months old now and is perfect. I should mention we did also change clinics for the fresh cycle as we weren’t happy with our original clinic (which was the same used when we had nhs funding). Good luck, I really hope it works for you xx
Wow that must've took a lot of heart ache and patience! I'm really scared now. I haven't started yet but thinking maybe I should start sooner then. Do they know why those failed?xx
Thank you, did you do anything different after the cycles failed or get any additional checks? My clinic are talking about doing additional things that might help next time, like additional medications and treatments but they all cost more money of course! Just wondering if you tried anything that you thought worked (apart from changing clinic)? Thanks!
not with original clinic which is why we switched. They did a few extra things like using embryo glue as standard (which OG clinic charged more for and said wasn’t worth it), and checked my internal c section scar. After my chemical pregnancy after the fresh cycle they also switched me to injectable progesterone rather than pessaries which may have made a difference? So hard to say.
Hi I am in the same position, my daughter is 2 next month, we were lucky our first Fet worked, we used 2 embryos which one stuck and embryo glue. They were both top grade.
We did another FET in July this year, one embryo 5AA no embryo glue and didn’t stick. Have just started second and are going to use 2 embryos again and embryo glue. They offered me an endo scratch also but have decided against it.
Good luck!! X
It took me a total of 6 cycles over 4 years (one year break because of Covid) to get my 2 sons. I had my eldest on my third fresh cycle - I changed clinics after my first two failed cycles. I had 6 frozen embryos from that cycle then the first frozen cycle was negative, the second one resulted in a mmc at 7 weeks and the third one became his brother. We didn’t get lucky by chance though, it took a lot research and at my second clinic, we basically told the consultant what we wanted him to do, and thankfully he was willing to trial it. I have PCOS and we followed the recommendations from a study we had read online. It worked a treat!
Good luck on your journey to become a mum x
Morning
I am 37 weeks pregnant through IVF (ICSI) with my second child. First try was complete fertilisation failure hence why we had ICSI second try which then worked. We had only one viable embryo to transfer and luckily it worked.
My first child was natural pregnancy 8 years ago. Therefore this has been secondary infertility for us. I’m currently 36 years old. We started trying for a second child 3 years ago, had one miscarriage and a long period of infertility - hence why we went down the IVF route.
X
i had three babies naturally and my last was IVF
I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant with my 2nd IVF baby. I had my first baby after our 3rd transfer in 2017 with 2 frozen embryos left. We transferred one of these in 2020 which was an ectopic pregnancy and I had to have emergency surgery but our last frozen embryo which we transferred in March has worked! ☺️ Wishing you all the best for baby number 2! X
hi, I had a fresh cycle/transfer in March 2019 which resulted in my daughter in December 2019 and decided to try again soon as my embryos wernt very good quality. Had a frozen transfer in March 2021 and had my son in November 2021, was shocked it worked first time again and ended up with a 2 year gap but know I’m so lucky and they are like best friends now. I found the frozen cycle easier but the meds a lot harder on my body. Whereas the process for the fresh cycle is physically exhausting with the scans and bloods etc. for my frozen cycle I took oestrogen for 2/3 weeks then had a scan to check my lining, a week later I had my transfer! Good luck to you 🥰
Hi, yes i have 2 beautiful girls who are technically twins! We had ICSI and were incredibly lucky to get pregnant on our first try in 2018 (3 years to get to that point) then we were lucky again to freeze 3. Then last year we put 2 3 day embryos in and unfortunately it didn't work. Found that incredibly difficult. We then had 1 left and gave birth 6 weeks ago. Our journey is complete now and am so thankful to science!!!
Where are you on your journey? Xx
congratulations! I can imagine that must have been really hard. My son is 17 months, had him via fet. Thinking about second one but not started anything yet. I have 2 frozen embryos but one is 3bb 6th day blastocyst xx
I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my first frozen transfer. I also have a nearly 5 year old who was conceived without IVF (she was a bit of a luck we think). Process is hard but worth it in the end. A
I am about to start again for 2nd. We had our son in 2019 from our first fresh transfer. We had two Frozen embryos from that round and both failed to thaw 😢😢pretty rare though so don’t worry!
Starting a fresh round soon. Really hope we can be successful as I’m 35-36 now xx
Good luck! Xx
hi. We had success in 2018 ( one try) and 2 nd success in 2022 , also one try. Text me if you need more details ☺️👍
My son was conceived with first FET. We did 3 more more FETs for a second child and no luck. We also got pregnant spontaneously but misscarried at 10 weeks. Starting a retrieval any time now. Good luck!
Heya. Also trying for a sibling
We have a son who’s now 3yo, he was from our second fresh cycle (3rd transfer). Second time round is sadly proving much harder for us (so far 2 egg collections and 5 transfers and no baby), but we are older (I just turned 40 and hubby is 53). So I think we likely have sperm and/or egg issues…
Really hope it goes more smoothly for you! Good luck 🤞💫🍀
Hi Anisah. I don't know if you're using Facebook but we have a secondary infertility group on there which is specifically for people who are trying for a second child. You may find it a useful community if you are not part of it already.

All the best x
hello,
I just wondered how you were getting on with trying for your second? I'm in a very similar position to you and currently in my 2ww for baby number 2. Our little boy was born in 2021 following 3 transfers (& lots of attempted transfers but we had to cancel due to lining). I don't know what to think this time round, on one hand I feel really positive but then on the other I can't imagine being lucky enough for it to work first time!
Have you had any transfers? Sending you lots of luck xx
hey! I haven't actually started mine yet for second. Mentally preparing myself for it first. I feel like that too about it working first time again but we can hope and pray it will! Good luck to u! What grade is your embaby? Really hope it works for u fingers crossed! keep me updated
