Weight Gain with IVF meds (FET)

Hi everyone,

I started my first round of IVF back in March, I had a BMI of 29 so only just within the NHS requirements, and was told ideally to lose weight if possible. I seemed fine with the drugs for egg collection, obvious hormonal fluctuations and a few aches/tiredness, but nothing weight gain related. I had to freeze all as I was waiting a hydrosalpinx procedure.

Fast forward to the end of July and I started a FET, so began on Estradot patches (2 patches of 100mgs at a time) . I did these for 11 days. I had an update scan which displayed a nice lining thickness but sadly also revealed a large follicle had managed to grow so the FET cycle was cancelled. I've since started down reg meds so I'm on Synarel nasal spray which I've been on for 5 days. Don't know whether its just in my head but I feel very bloated through taking both these.

To my horror I've weighed myself and I'm now over a stone heavier from a last weigh, from what I can gather, I've only put this on since starting taking the FET meds, which has only been 1 month. a) I'm worried for how much more weight they could put in me since I could be taking these a while and b) if I am weighed again would the hospital take into consideration weight gain is from the drugs? I haven't changed any diet or eaten/drank any different so there is no other reason I could think of than the meds.

Anyone had anything similar?

Hey,I found the same too. Couldn't understand why putting on weight when wasn't drinking, was eating all the healthy fruit and veg and salmon and salads etc but sure it's the drugs playing havok with us. I have recently gone gluten free and focused on gut health and although felt no impact to start, from 3 weeks started to lose weight and feel so much better. It's hard work and a bit rubbish at times though!

I will say once you get the NHS funding they won't take it away or do a weigh in so I wouldn't worry about that, just do what you are comfortable weight wise as bmi isn't always an accurate measure if you are pretty active and healthy. Plus for info with our clinic egg donors can be up to 35 which tells you over 30 can't mean suddenly your egg quality declines.

Hope the FET goes well and good luck x

I put on weight during stims for my NHS cycle and the nurse just gave me a lecture about my weight made me feel rubbish but they didn't cancel my treatment even though the weight gain pushed me over the NHS threshold. Hopefully your clinic will be similar. Good luck 👍

I always put on weight during FET. And I bloat incredibly. It's not great but it goes away after 1-2 months after I stop all the meds.
