Prostap injection

Hi ladies 💕 I’m about to start my 3rd IVF cycle. My Fallopian tubes have blockages and possibly also a question mark over egg quality but husband has been told his sperm are top notch 🙄 The first cycle I used Ovaleap and Ganirelix but none of our 5 fertilised eggs developed normally and we weren’t able to have a transfer. The second round I used Buserelin and Menopur and we had one normal looking 3 day embryo out of 4 fertilised eggs which was transferred but didn’t result in a pregnancy. This time the hospital wanted to use the same protocol as the second round as they felt it gave a better result than round one and did result in a transfer, but I was told today at my appointment that there is a supply shortage of Buserelin so they are changing things up a bit and I’ll now have a single Prostap injection mid-July then start Menopur injections a couple of weeks after that. I just wondered if anyone had any advice/insights/experience about the Prostap injection? I want to be hopeful this time but I can’t help feeling so pessimistic and very conscious that it’s our last free NHS round 😔

Hi there,

I had the prostap injection on my second cycle last year. I also used it for down reg then started my stimms a few weeks later. I was lucky I had zero side effects other than my bleed arrived roughly a few days later than I'd hoped but nothing that affected the cycle timing in the end. So don't worry if your bleed is slightly late too, I learnt it's common with this med and baseline scan will of course confirm your lining has thinned out enough to start stimms.

P.s I had something like 11 healthily fertilised embryos that cycle out of 20 (with a low amh, only 1 tube because I too had hydrosalpinx and previous crap rounds) that resulted in 6 top grade day 6 frosties plus our little boy who's now 4 months 💙

Hi we have a prostrap injection at frozen transfers for down reg and it basically gives you the same symptoms as burselin but lasts longer. Normally the prostrap is topped up by burselin for a few days to get to transfer day as it starts to wear off but my last FET the clinic had a burselin shortage so I had a second prostrap instead. I asked lots of questions about the difference it would make and they set my mind at ease, maybe you could ask your clinic for the same? For me It meant the symptoms lasted a bit longer BUT I didn’t need to do that daft nasal spray first thing in the morning and through the day so I was quite happy tbh and the nurse said a few women had said similar about ending up preferring it. Hope this round is your best one yet 🤗 xx

Thanks Twiglet2! The nurse did say it worked similarly to Buserelin and that it would mean only one injection at home so that’s positive. I’m having acupuncture just now too so already feeling like a human pin cushion! Xx

I know - I must be mad! Don’t even like needles! But I’m finding the acupuncture relaxing so worth it for me xx
