Cancelled cycle

Morning angels,

I went in for my scratch today and instead of a scratch we have an abandoned cycle! I was told my thyroid is way too high! They’ve put me on thyroxine 50g per day for the next month. Apparently they sent a letter to my gp saying I have hypothyroidism. I called and spoke to my gp this morning who said they’ve never received a letter and when I had my TSH done last month it was 2.5 so she can’t understand it and doesn’t want me to take any more thyroxine until I have my bloods done through them, I’m waiting for the clinic to advise now. So TSH was 2.5 at the gp and 10 at the clinic within a month of each other. Has anyone else had this happen? I’m annoyed but I get it thyroid needs to be right before we go through it all again but man I can’t believe it. Thank you xx

This is hugely frustrating! The thyroid has also been the bane of my life when it comes to fertility, I have had mis-matched advice from clinic vs GP and it can makes an already stressful situation become even more so. What I would say if it offers a more optimistic viewpoint is that you definitely don't want to be doing a cycle when the TSH is 10 so I believe cancelling was the correct decision. Have you been taking any different medications between the time when it was 2.5 and the time it was 10? I found mine rose quickly when I started estrogen as part of an IVF cycle. Also different labs can give different readings too. Maybe the clinic can provide another letter and give you a copy so you can pass it on and ensure it's definitely received Xx

That’s it! My GP was like no way, don’t take anymore tablets and come in on Monday so us to check your bloods again. But I don’t get how a month apart can differ so much!! Nothings changed, still rattling around with all of my supplements that I’ve been taking since March. I’ve asked for a copy of the letter to be sent to me so let’s wait and see! If I do have hypothyroidism it would make sense as I’m always freezing, plateaued massively with weight loss even though I calorie count and I’m knackered all the time. Such a mess xx

Similar symptoms to me...always cold, always tired but I have fluctuating weight.

One thing I forgot to say. I set my alarm each day at 6 am to take my Thyroxine. This was on the advice of my fertility clinic. My GP never told me it needed to be taken in isolation. Stay clear by at least an hour before you have food or any supplements xx

Hi Judith. Oh dear that is a bit high. However, with 50mgs of levothyroxine , hopefully that wil reduce it. So annoying but all your hormones need to be balanced to give you the best chance. Thinking of you. Diane

Thanks Diane! Do you know how long it takes to come down? And why there’s such a difference between the two results within a month of each other?

Hi. Up to three months. Probably be retested to check you are on right dose after one month. Diane

I would say if your strict on how you take the tablets levothroxine ie on an empty stomach as advised by gp you might get your levels balanced with in 6 weeks. Do follow your gps advice and just keep going for a blood check up to see your levels going in the right direction. It’s a pain but it’s so important to get your hormones right.

I was the only one pushing for a blood check on mine because I knew how quickly they could fluctuate. It’s a lot of money to waste if you proceed and they are not right.

I think clinics forget how expensive it is and they change the plan with out notice and at the customers expense. But I do agree thyroid should have very low readings less than 1 if my brain has remembered right.

Rest and meds for now to help balance your hormones is all you can do. Once your back in the zone then you can make a new plan.

Good luck 👍🏼

TSH should be below 2 ideally 1 when ttc or pregnant. I would take the meds and check again. Good luck.
