Embryo transfer after surgery

Hi All,

I had my egg collection done last week & luckily we got 2 good day 5 blastocysts which have now been frozen. I have endometriosis so I am now waiting to have surgery, which will most likely involve removing my Fallopian tubes as well, before I can have a transfer done. Has anyone else had similar surgery & how long did you have to wait between having the surgery done & embryo transfer?

Hi HortC. Just wanted to wish you well with all this. Your embryos will be quite safe waiting to be transferred back into you where they belong. Removing both Fallopian tubes is more common today, when they are both blocked. Any excess lubrication in the tubes can only leak into the womb end, where it is believed the leak can prevent developing embryos from implanting. You will probably need to wait 3 months for transfer. Good luck! Diane

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have been told both tubes are blocked & the fluid wouldn’t be good for a transfer so I am fairly certain they will both be removed. I thought it would be at least that long a wait before transfer, I have to wait 3-4 months now at least for the surgery so got a while to wait now which is frustrating but not much we can do about it! This whole thing is 1 long waiting game!

Hi. It is indeed a long wait, but you're on your way! Diane

Yes I’ve had that surgery and all I can say is give yourself enough time to recover. Your body needs to recover properly to make sure your giving your embryos the best chance. I agree with Diane at least 3mths

Good luck 💗

Thank you. I know it’s important to wait but I’m so impatient and just want to get to embryo transfer!

Hi,

I am having one fallopian tube removed (due to hydrosalpinx) and was told only 4 weeks between removal and implantation of embryo. Would be interested to see what other people on here have been told as I’m concerned I may not be leaving long enough to heal…

Thanks for bringing this up and lots of luck!

Hello, I had a laparoscopy which resulted in both my tubes being removed on 22 March and I am booked in for my embryo transfer this coming Monday, 16th May. My clinic suggested I allow myself one natural cycle following surgery before starting my next round. And my gynaecologist agreed and advised that really the sooner the better as everything would be “clean” inside so I’ll be in best shape. Good luck with it all. Xx
