Has anyone shown as HPV + on their smear test before starting IVF, and if so did your clinic care?
I had a smear last year (the first I’d had since they started screening for this first) so have to repeat it next week. My previous clinic never saw it and I never said anything (constantly worried about delays and it can’t be treated anyway so 🤷♀️) Anyway, we’ve booked a consultation at a new clinic and they’ve asked for a copy. So I’m guessing they’ll make me wait til I have the new results but what if it still shows HPV?

I had HPV CIN 2. So the HPV had spread into abnormal cells that had to be removed unfortunately. Not very pleasant but needs must.
From what I am aware HPV is what causes the CIN 1/2 etc. If your HPV is low and they are not recommending surgery to remove then I would think the clinic would go ahead with ivf. I think it’s more if you need removal of any cells that they would cancel treatment. xxx
Hi SollyMy clinic were aware that I am HPV positive and were happy to continue as I had no abnormal cells. It may be different if you have abnormal cells.
Yes that’s what I was thinking. I cant imagine it will hold things up if it is just the hpv and no further cell change, just got myself in a panic when they asked for the result letter!
I showed positive for HPV and had to have a colposcopy before I could start, but that might have been because I had abnormal cells too 🤷🏼♀️ Really hope you can get a new smear sorted quickly 🤞🏻 Hope covid has gone? I am on day 9 of positive tests 🤦🏼♀️ But feel fine! xx
Eurgh, all these delays! Feeling much better but still a bit rough and my test today was still very positive. My partner got his first negative one today on day 11 but has felt fine for a week. Hope you’ve managed to get some sun at least! Xxx
Sorry to butt in, but - what did the colposcopy say? I had one too and it said low level abnormality, test again in a year…. Was never told it could affect IVF? Doctor knew I was going for IVF and said to go ahead. Now im confused and a bit worried 😟
Sorry if my answer confused or worried you - I didn’t express myself very well! I had a colposcopy and biopsy and like you was told low level and come back in a year. I just needed a letter that said that and I was fine to crack on with IVF. Interestingly a year later they were very firm about me getting my follow up smear as advised by the letter and wouldn’t let me start until I had x

I was HPV+ and had abnormal cells )m(low level abnormality), I had to have a colposcopy but clinic said as long as colposcopy came back that no urgent treatment was needed (which is what happened) they were happy to go ahead….? I never knew they could refuse? Can I ask why? Does it increase chances of a bad outcome?
Hi, no I don’t think it has any effect on outcome, I’m just worried in terms of it creating further delays. As in if they wanted me to have a colposcopy or something (we’re really behind schedule as it is so desperate to start next month!) xx
This happened to me in the last few months and I can understand being worried. Hope it all goes smoothly. On my smear I had low grade changes and the colposcopy confirmed that. The wait list was long for colposcopy but I asked for a cancellation and called up to check each week. So I just need a smear in a year. Just another curve ball!!! And they said it's ok for me to TTC and start my next IVF.

Nhs Scotland needed a clear smear from me before they would proceed (ie I was back on the normal smear rota) I had HPV and CIN3 abnormal cells (the highest grade) though but even after colposcopy and letz to remove with a biopsy showing the all clear my clinic wanted to wait until the result of my follow up smear 6 months later. So I had an 8 month delay. I have heard thought why if you get a letter from the person doing the colonoscopy to say they are happy for you to go ahead with treatment the clinic can then proceed (another lady at the same clinic as me got this and could restart before follow up smear) it’s probably best to call them to discuss it as the worst thing is someone notices that you need to delay halfway through a cycle (this is what happened to me after one consultant said I could go ahead after his post then have way through down reg another told me I couldn’t!) hopefully you get the all clear at your appointment 🤞🏽🤗 xxx
Oh what a nightmare 🙈 You’re right, I’m going to talk to them about it. We had a cycle almost cancelled mid way through because they realised all our STD tests were a couple of weeks out of date and it was so stressful I don’t want a repeat of that! Thanks lovely, hope you’re well xxx
Well I must be the only one to say no, it never came up. I’ve had regular smears as one does. And perhaps they had access to those notes but generally they didn’t access any of my health notes
I have hpv and my clinic wasn’t bothered. How else are people supposed to have children hpv can’t be cured! I now have a beautiful 3 year old. Good luck x
