After having spent a year doing egg-collections, I took advantage of a break to do a pap smear test. I just heard back that I have HPV and no abnormal cells. Should I be worried and should I inform my clinic? Will that interrupt my treatment?
It would be great to hear from anyone who experienced anything similar.

Hi lovely, I was diagnosed as HPV positive but also had abnormal cells. You should give your clinic a copy of the letter but they don't do anything about HPV, its just a marker that means you MIGHT be pre-disposed to cervical cancer so should keep on top of smears etc. The fact that you have no abnormal cells is great news and a really positive sign.
I dont think it will make any difference to your treatment, my clinic were only interested in my abnormal cells and biopsy and didnt look twice at the HPV diagnosis! Good luck with your FET - when will you start? x
Hey!
As someone that has been plagued with HPV on and off for years, I can confirm it, on its own, will make no difference to your treatment. All it means for me is that I get a smear test done annually rather than every 3 years.
The only thing to consider is whether to have another one before any transfer, to the extent there is a reasonable time lag. This would put your mind at rest if then spending the next 9 months pregnant.
HPV means you have a higher chance of having minor abnormalities, which left unchecked could turn into something more sinister. Because you have a normal smear, itβs fine for now.
Donβt worry about it. Honestly! Good luck with your cycle.
Please inform your clinic now as soon as possible...
so your reports says you have HPV and no abnormal cells but it's better to get HPV that is human papilloma virus to be treated first if not treated well it can cause changes to your cervical cells and high risk for cervical cancer...please go back to your gynaecologist's and wait and withhold all this ivf treatment for a while...
May be ......but do inform your clinic about...just concern about you so I wrote such long messages please don't get offended...am sorry...sending you my loveππππ
No I havenβt heard that at all, Iβve had 3 rounds - one with a bfp but have other issues that has caused repeat Mc, tbh I would say the HPV status is probably the only thing my clinic has been underwhelmed about! I asked if I should be worried but all responses related to smears rather than ivf π€·πΌββοΈxx
Hello. I tested positive for HPV just before we started our first cycle. Our consultant was not at all bothered he said it was nothing to worry about. We continued as normal and had a successful cycle. There are so many bumps in the road on this journey arnt there !! Xx
So I finally spoke to my clinic, they told me that the HPV won't impact my upcoming egg collection, but I will need to wait for the virus to be cleared before proceeding to a transfer. Given that it can take 2 years or more for the virus to go away, I'm devastated
