Cyclogest or utrogestan??

Hi all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. We are currently pursuing egg donation and are hopefully going to be matched with a donor very soon! 🤞🏼🤞🏼 It may seem a silly question but our clinics pharmacy has prescribed us utrogestan and estradiol for my progesterone and estrogen medicine. However, my local pharmacy has given us cyclogest and a different brand to estradiol (the name escapes me). My local pharmacy is so much cheaper - do you think it’ll make a difference which brand of progesterone and estrogen I use?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shouldn’t do. I’ve used both and preferred cyclogest as it was less messy (plus you could put it rectally) and just one suppository. Utrogestan I find a bit tricky, waxy discharge and having to use 2 vaginally (was told by clinic not to use them rectally). I don’t know which is better in terms of effectiveness, I’d imagine they’re the same or the pharmacy wouldn’t have changed them? X

Same as Betty. I’ve used both, prefer cyclogest as it can be taken in the back which is far less messy. Also you have to take utrogest 3 times rather than 2. But ultimately they must be the same drug just administered differently so I don’t think it really matters!

They are similar but not identical and the pharmacy should not have swapped them if your prescription states utrogestan. You could check with your clinic but I would personally get them to exchange. Xx

For me the difference was important - I swapped to Utrogestan vaginally (from cyclogest) as I absorb progesterone very differently on these compared with cyclogest - my consultant agreed. I think for some women it makes no difference and many places seem to change them about and say they're the same. Also sometimes it's whether you use them vaginally or rectally that makes the difference. But if your clinic prescribed Utrogestan I would insist that the pharmacy gets this for you just in case it does make a difference for you.
