Antibiotics and probiotics after EMMA & ALICE test

My EMMA & ALICE test came back with results that require me to take antibiotics (Metronidazole tablets) and probiotics (canesflor vaginal capsule).

Am i ok to start the two together? or should i complete antibiotics first and then take the probiotics? Has anyone else had these before, as i read on another forum to take antibiotics before, but i wasn't told to? It's very tricky to take the Canesflor for 6 days and then 1 a week for 4 weeks, as my period will be due by then and i don't think i can use while on my period!

I called my clinic and asked if i can take something else instead which wont take as long but they said they only recommend to take this.

I really just want to start my FET now!! The delay is neverending.

My clinic told me to finish the antibiotics and then start the probiotics but I was on different ones to you. Can you call them tomorrow so you have an answer before the weekend? I was told the probiotics wouldn’t start to take effect while I was on the antibiotics hence finishing those first. Best wishes with everything x

That makes sense and i have read that on a few other places. I think it will take me through 2 cycles before i can go ahead with my fet by the looks of it.Thank you

I completely understand your desire to just get moving! I'm the same, won't even hear back from my immune, biome and ERA test for another 3 weeks 😔 It feels like we're just wishing our life away sometimes... but I guess having gone through all the time and expense and discomfort, we should see it all through and accept thar might mean yet more months passing 😢 Did you do immune tests too, or just EMMA/ALICE? Xx

It was the era emma and alice. I think i feel stressed because i stopped working to focus on ivf and stuff but its the wait and delays that just make it worse

Ohhh yeah I see how that would make it even tougher. Did they give you any guidance on progesterone timings? xx

I was told the timing showed i was receptive which is good! Just need to sort out myself with antibiotics and probiotic. Still waiting on my results report so i can see exactly how much of what. They've said they won't repeat the biopsy to check if the meds have worked and i can move on to treatment.

I had to take 12 probiotics and just did them all in one go, not what the package told me. That’s what my clinic said to do anyway. So just double check with them first xxx

I had The ERA and like you needed antibiotics and probiotics, exactly the same ones as you. I was told I had to take the antibiotics first and then start the probiotics once finished the antibiotics as they wouldn't work if took them at the same time. I have been told I have got to have the biopsy done again after I have finished the probiotics so not happy as an even longer delay. Just hoping that the medications will have worked and the next biopsy results will be ok. Hope everything works out well for you.

I hope it works out for you i know the delay is annoying but theres some reassurance they're testibg again. My nurses are clueless and said not to test again

I took antibiotics followed by probiotics, and repeated the EMMA biopsy to check, it was still a bad result, repeated the process 2 more times 😓 eventually after the 3rd biopsy I decided to go ahead with my FET without checking again! I know the feeling of being delayed for months because of this and empathize with you ❤️

hey, I’m in a similar situation. My results actually came back worse than before -42% good bacteria now 0%.

What was the outcome of your FET?

Update: spoke to a nurse who was confused and advised to take the probiotics then take antibiotics. I mentioned it says to do the other way around online so she said "oh ok do that then". She also said i can take the final 2 weeks of probiotics while on fet meds. Im not sure if i should just wait the 5 weeks and delay another month and complete the course or if its ok to do that. So confused!!

Argh it's so annoying when the people supposed to have the answers, don't! Really shakes your confidence 😫 xx

Can’t help on the antibiotic front, but when I took the vaginal probiotics my doctor said just to take one every night for 14 days and ignore what the package says :) 🤞

Antibiotics strip all good bacteria so take the probiotics when you have finished antibiotics

Also make sure you eat with them

Good luck

Hi Summertime02, can I ask you which procedure did you do first? Emma/Alice or ERA? I have reading on this forum lately and have a clinic appointment next month to plan my FET. How much is the Emma/ Alice procedure cost?

Hi, i had all 3 done together. So in one biospy they used it for the emma, era and alice. The test is called EndomeTRIO. check out this link for more info igenomix.co.uk/our-services...

My hospital sent my biopsy to igenomix and it cost £1200, meds were not included so i had to pay for them up until the day of biopsy. Once the samples taken, you dont need to continue with the meds.

Hi Summertime02, thank you for your reply. Sorry I don’t visit the forum often, and only noticed the reply. So did you order the test your own and gave it to your NHS hospital to sent the biopsy? How long did you have to wait for the results? Did it help you with your implantation?

Hello! I did the antibiotics first and then started on the canesflor. That was 3 months ago… I still use the canesflor every Wednesday.. once a week.

Hi there,

I hope you're ok

I know this was a few months ago now but I just wondered what the outcome was? I have been prescribed the exact same antibiotics and probiotics as you! After being told I had mild infection of prevotella bivia and gardenrella.

was told to take the probiotics everyday for 2 weeks and then 3 times a week right up until our IVF cycle - which could be as long as 4 months away due to my husbands ongoing urology investigations. (High DNA fragmentation)

I wasn't told to take the antibiotics first, but have read the same thing... however I'd already started both. Today my period came and I have no idea whether to continue using the probiotics or not??

Thanks
