Scans relating to ERA, EMMA and ALICE

Hi all I am in the middle of a diagnostic cycle for ERA, EMMA and ALICE tests.

I was scanned yesterday on Day 10 and the lining was apparently looking good, it was approx 8mm.

I received my next steps later on and was told to introduce progesterone on Wednesday, which will be Day 14. There was no mention in my instructions regarding a further scan.

My understanding is they start you on progesterone when the lining is sufficient.

My question is how do they know I should introduce progesterone on Wednesday based on a scan that was done on Saturday?

And if the lining is sufficient, why are they waiting another four days before starting the progesterone?

How did other people's ERAs work in terms of the scans?

Thanks all x

Hi there, from my understanding, the timing between the scan and the progesterone starting isn't important as long as they're happy with the lining at the last scan. What is important is timing of the start of the progesterone to the mock transfer/biopsy. As this is the timing that's critical and must be exactly measured. So I expect they're just asking you to start on Wed because of when they plan on doing your mock transfer xx

The lining can sit being thick and happy for ages!

Best of luck for you 💕💕

I think the minimum thickness for embryo transfer is 6 mm so if you’ve reached this thickness (which you have( you’re good to go

Thanks for this. I know there is a minimum thickness but wondered why they are waiting four more days if I've already got to the minimum thickness required xx

Hi Skittles. My clinic does this to time your transfer (or in your case tests) to fit with the doctor’s schedule.

Thank you for the reply. That's probably what's happened then x

day 14 is perceived as ovulation day so if they’re happy at day 10 they can assume it will still be good at day 14. At day 14 you would start the progesterone which would support an embryo transfer that if it was a 5 day old embryo would be transferred 5 days later.

At 8mm your lining is growing nicely so they are giving it a few more days yo continue that process....in a normal cycle ovulation would be around day 14 so they usually go by that timing is all is on track.xx

Thank you everyone. Just a further question to anyone that may know.

My plan says I will have the procedure 5 days after the start of the progesterone.

I am due to start progesterone on Wednesday morning.

I am due to have the procedure on Monday.

My question is do I take the progesterone for a sixth day on the Monday morning before the procedure?

I was only prescribed 5 doses so that will take me up to Sunday and not Monday. Everything I've seen says you take the progesterone for 5 days but I'm not sure if it includes the day of the procedure and that becomes a sixth day?

Maybe this should be really obvious but I'm not sure! Thank you x
