Embryo Transfer under Sedation

Hi beauts,

So I just found out today that my clinic want to do a Day 3 embryo transfer under sedation. This is due to every time I have had a transfer, it’s gotten longer to do and more painful with each one. Iv asked for different consultants but the one that wasn’t able to do the transfer last time (after and hour n half trying) is doing the transfer again as everyone else is apparently on annual leave.

I’m slightly worried having to go through the sedation when it’s not for egg collection and it seems it rarely happens.

Has anyone had this and which resulted in a positive outcome? ❤️ Xx

Hi

just wanted to give you some hope!! Iv had a few transfer’s with IVF and all under sedation as my pain intolerance is ridiculous- and felt it was better for me to be sedated as i get anxiety and it makes the process easier especially when its harder for them to do the transfer.

My daughter was born 4 yrs ago through IVF and i was fully sedated for transfer so please dont think it will effect the transfer in a bad way.

My transfers have always been 5 days.

Good luck with your transfer!!

Hi Mar,

Thank you for sharing your story, that does sound so encouraging 🥰 I’m so happy that you ended with the best news. It’ll be transfer number 5 for me and Iv always had day 5 blastocysts, I’m guessing it’s the quality v age reasoning to go with a day 3 transfer 🤷🏻‍♀️ xx

Awww no problem at all. Honestly when i went through it the first time with sedation i was also so so worried it would effect the outcome, but i managed to have a chemical pregnancy the first time round so i just then had that faith that if if can implant then sedation should not be a problem and i had no choice had to be sedated.

And yes day 3’s are excellent too lots and lots of successful stories with day 3’s - praying this is the one for you xx

My first 2 transfers were done concious with nothing but gas and air. The second one was done by a new doctor who didn’t believe that I found transfers excruciatingly painful and tried to make the nurse with the gas leave. I have stage 4 endometriosis and I told her she wasn’t touching me without gas. Afterward she said no wonder you find it painful, it was like trying to thread a catheter round a U bend . Like I didn’t tell her that before 🤷🏻‍♀️

After that one failed my consultant told me he would just sedate me as it wasn’t fair to me to put me through that and it was probably safer for me. That’s the only transfer that worked. I think it helped me that I wasn’t aware of what was happening or resisting or fidgeting due to the pain.

I hope this helps ease your mind and that your transfer goes smoothly x

Oh Jeesh, thank you for sharing 💕 that does sound ridiculously painful, I’m sorry you had to go through all of that but thankfully you we’re listened to in the end.

I don’t have any compilations like this, I just think the neck of my womb closes tight at the sight of any catheter being passed. A female doctor instead took over after the hour n half of him fighting with my cervix whilst on gas an air and she completed the transfer within 10 mins without any fuss! I think it’s so much easier when it’s a woman but unfortunately there is only the one male consultant available as everyone is on annual leave. I don’t believe all are on holiday and this was their plan all along!! 🥺 xx
