Results of Egg Retrieval

Well we finally called the lab today, tired of waiting to hear if we got any blastocysts, and they said that we had one that was frozen yesterday.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Last time we had five eggs, three that fertilized normally, and two blastocysts. One BFN and one miscarriage. This time there were six eggs, four fertilized normally, but then we only got 1 blastocyst.

Why did this happen?? What do you think? Does it mean anything about the quality of my eggs? I am in France and PGT testing is not available. They also don't grade.

Information about the possible success of this blastocyst is welcome, thanks.

Hi LuxFleur, I don't think it says anything about your egg quality.It's a minefield and each time is very different.

Our first egg collection I had 18 collected, 15 fertilised and 4 blastos - so for me the drop off felt huge!

The next one we had 6 collected, all fertilised and had 2 blastos - so ratio-wise was much better and I was 1 year older at 38.

I think it can depend on the meds used and just what your body is doing that cycle.

It's a minefield and I do think sometimes just pot luck. I always collected loads of eggs (c.20), but never got more than one or two blasts from each cycle, which was so disheartening. I know its hard (and this is a really unhelpful thing to say) but keep positive. Remember it only takes one.

Been keeping an eye out for your update and glad to hear you have a little frozen embaby 🌟 remember it only takes the one and I’ve saw so many posts about quality over quantity being best. It’s probably good they don’t grade as in my experience the ‘best’ ones didn’t work and it really is a game of chance xx
