Disappointing egg retrieval

Hi ladies

I’m just feeling so crushed right now and needed to speak about to it people that understand

Just got back from my egg retrieval and they only got 6 eggs from 11 follicles

My last retrieval I had 9 eggs and only 3 fertilised and none worked so I’m already expecting the worst for this cycle

Apparently I’m a poor responder

Is there anyone in a similar situation to me?

The doctor said if there’s anything good she will do a fresh transfer on Monday

I can’t stop crying

This is the end for me

I took out a loan to pay for this cycle so I definitely won’t be able to do another

Please keep my 6 eggs in your prayers

Sorry about this. I'm assuming you are on the younger side if doctor feels getting 6 eggs is poor response. I only ever got 1 egg or no eggs on max stims, which made me a poor responder. Getting 6 eggs would be miraculous. At the end of the day, it's quality over quantity, so let's just hope there is a healthy egg somewhere in there and all will work out.

Yes I only just turned 32 so she was expecting a better response especially since changing the drug protocol And with my last retrieval 9 eggs resulted in 3 average quality blastocysts and no successful transfers so I’m not expecting any miracle this month

I feel like I went though so much with the injections and blood tests and ultrasounds and retrieval and it was all for nothing

Hey, you still have chances!! Just because you have 6 eggs doesn't mean that your fertility rate should be low.

I know that there are statistics out there but honestly, every cycle is different. Hard to predict.

Look, I know that comparing is pointless, but just so you see, I'm 42 and in my last cycle I went from 8 eggs to 11 being retrieved. One would have thought that just because I had more the number of fertilised eggs would also be higher, right?

Well, guess what? It was my worse cycle.

You only need one, and the good news is that you are young. I would however recommend checking your partner's sperm. I heard that fertilisation rates are also dependent on the quality of the sperm.

Best luck to you!!

🤗

Hi Hopefulmother. Just wanted to wish you well, and hope that this batch of eggs will perform better than the last one. Keeping everything crossed and will be thinking of you. Diane

Hey! Have some faith. I was a poor responder apparently but I wouldn’t say after being on here that I was as we got 4 eggs, all 4 fertilised and we got 2 very good blastocysts 💗 1 fresh (chemical) and our last one is comfy in my womb at 27wks. Us poor responsers can have positive results 🤗Good luck 🤞🏼🙏🏼

This makes me feel better, last time I had 5 and only 2 fertilised and I was crushed but keep telling myself, you only need 1 to stick!!! Thanks for this x

Ah that’s such hopeful newsThank you for the positive advice

I’m anxious because only 30% of my eggs fertilised last time so I wonder if my eggs will be healthier this time

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Will keep u guys updated on my egg report

So sorry to hear lovely.

After my 2nd egg collection I woke up to the news that they could only collect one, even though we were expecting at least 7/8 eggs judging from the scans & hormone levels.

I was devastated but it got fertilised and made it to freezing on day 5.

Don't give up hope - I know it's easier said than done but try to stay positive x

Don’t give up hope. I had 7 eggs collected, 3 fertilised but only 1 grew good enough to transfer and how he’s a busy 2 year old! It’s all about quality! Good luck, stay positive! Xx

I’ve had 4 egg retrievals and only ever got 3, 5, 2 and 4 eggs so you have got much better result than I’ve ever had. The retrievals with 3 and 2 eggs produced no usable embryos but we have had 1 fresh transfer each from the other retrievals and I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant from our last transfer which I never thought possible. Try and stay positive. It is a shitty process but ultimately you really do only need one good egg. Good luck. Xx

Hi, i had 7 eggs retrieved from which 3 got fertilised, on 3rd day they transferred all the embroys, only 1 stuck and currently i am 11 weeks preg. so don't loose hope, might be this your time, have faith and my little advice is don't take tensions, dont panick after embroy transfer and be happy.

HeyI hope you are okay.

I got 6 eggs and was really disappointed but then got 4 blasto in good state.

Dr said it really is quality not quantity.

Fingers crossed for you xx

Hi Hopeful, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's such a rough road. I don't have a similar experience, but I do know that what counts is what you end up with in the end. I don't want to give you false hope, but a cycle where you may initially feel you've gotten off to a bad start may turn out to be the one that works. Keeping everything crossed that you get something to transfer from this cycle.

Hi Hopefulmother,

I know exactly how you feel. I’m 34 and have had 3 egg collections with low responses. I had my 3rd one last week where I had 9 follicles and got 5 eggs from which 3 fertilised and 2 were frozen. The doctor said for my age I’m a low responder, but my blastocysts are good quality so hopefully it will work. Don’t lose hope just yet, praying for you.

I have had two cycles, the first I only got three eggs and ended up with nothing to transfer. Completely disheartening but went ahead with a second round and got 6 eggs which for me was a great response. I had two great quality blastocysts, fresh cycle was unsuccessful. FET resulted in my now 16 month old son. I never thought we would be blessed with a child after my first round and now I am 38 weeks pregnant with my second who was conceived naturally.

You have a decent chance if my experience is anything to go by. Try to stay positive, I know it is easier say than done. Best of luck, it really is about quality over quantity xxx

Hang in there love. The farthest I got with IVF was when there were only 3 eggs collected from a cycle, ended in a late mc because of a genetic condition but everything else worked. My last cycle there were 7 eggs, the most ever, but only one fertilized, my worst outcome. You really never know what you will get. I see that you're also just 32 so you have miles to go before all hope is lost. xo
