I’m waiting on my 6 week scan (this is my second cycle - FET, had BFP Tuesday) and I’ve had some spotting this morning. I noticed it on my pessary applicator this morning. There was not a lot and it looked old and brown.
I’m really upset as my first cycle (fresh transfer) started like this and failed - this was during the 2WW so I didn’t get as far as doing a test.
Has anyone else had this and been ok? I’m trying to stay positive but it’s triggered me from last time.
Thank you x

Hi,From 6 weeks onwards to 11 weeks I had Red/brown/pink bleeding and I was honestly so shocked when it was all ok.
First bleed was bright red at 6 weeks and Drs eventually thought it was due to cervical ectropy so cells on outside of cervix bleeding due to internal scans plus pessaries too. I’ve heard bleeding in IVF pregnancies is also more common- no idea why.
If it escalates to heavy with pain then that’s not a good sign (although can still be ok) but it can be all ok with bleeding. My 2 year old is the confirmation! I even had clots and pain with it.
Thank you. That really does. I think because my first cycle ended badly with spotting (that was in the 2WW) I am fearing the worst. Really hope I can get to my scan. I’ve got cramping but I have had bad cramping the entire cycle so far so that’s not new.
Can I ask how much bleeding you had? Did you have clots when you had your 2 year old?
I had quite a bit. It felt like it anyway. Bright red, some clots. I don’t think I ever soaked a pad or anything but I was staining them quite a bit. The night I had clots had such bad pains and was convinced that was it. This was around 6 weeks then had an emergency scan and heartbeat there etc at about 6.5 weeks, continued to bleed on and off then up to 11 weeks with a scan almost every week as I was so freaked out! Xx
I know this feeling I had an absolute break down when I started with this. Went on 3 weeks pink/brown on wiping. Was absolutely nothing other then implantation bleeding. I have a healthy 2 year old now ♥️ Xx
Thank you, I’ve keeping everything crossed. It’s just brown at the moment so I’m hoping it’s nothing sinister. I’ve had cramping all the way through this cycle so that’s not new but I can’t work out if it’s worse now or if it’s psychological as I’m panicking x
So it was about a week after the BFP. Then right until after my 7 week scan. I refused an early scan in case of no heartbeat as I’d of been more stressed out. I’d had definite implantation spotting on day 4 xx
Thank you for replying. I’m guessing the next few days will be telling for me. If it can just stay at spotting I will feel more hopefully. Just panic every time I go to the toilet ☹️
No problem! My clinic gave me the option of rectal pessaries from the off and I just find it so much easier!!
I know that panic feeling it’s awful! But honestly my sister bled like something horrendous for 12 weeks due to a big heamatoma. Baby is 5 months now! And I used to work on a gynae ward and you’d see bleeding all of the time with fab outcomes ♥️ Xx
Hi, congrats on your recent positive 😊 I know your spotting could be for a few different reasons but just thought I'd mention something you may be able to adapt quickly, if your clinic are happy with the change of course. I knew my cervix was likely to be an awkward bu**er so I spoke to my clinic and decided to insert my prog pessaries rectally from the outset. This prevents irritation of your cervix and will rule out spotting from your pessaries. Worth a thought!
Your clinic may even decide you need a higher dose of progesterone so worth calling them to discuss your concerns again.
Congratulations on your positive. I know how tough early pregnancy can be. I have had spotting in both my pregnancies. My first was at 7 weeks and 11 weeks and was suspected cervical irritation from the cyclogest pessaries (so I took them rectally from that point). My second was at 4-5 weeks and I suspect was implantation bleeding. There are so many success stories with bleeding in early pregnancy- I know how worrying it is though. I have a 20 month and I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant. Wishing you all the best x
