Not a true AMH reading?

So had my baseline scan this afternoon ready to start Stims tomorrow. She could see 8 follicles at the time although could be more as one ovary was hiding behind my bladder so she reckons could be low double figures. When I had my fertility checked in October, I had 10 follicles on the scan. They seemed positively surprised by the amount as My AMH came back very low at 2.8 pmol/l !!

Has anyone else here had a rogue AMH reading and then found out it was higher?

I was told to be off of the pill for 3 months before the tests but the nurse said today it probably wasn’t long enough as I’d been on it so long!

Don’t get me wrong it’s a positive for potential future natural pregnancies but I’ve just spent £7.5k to try and preserve what I thought was really low egg count! 😩

I probably would of gone for a 2 cycle retrieval/egg freeze rather than buying donor sperm and making embryos 🙈

Sorry for the rant everyone but as you can imagine getting those results in October has taken its toll on me emotionally when possibly it could of been avoided.

Hi Luna,I had my AMH results back earlier this year and it was 8.7. They said it was low for my age and I panicked!! After looking on here I found that people said their AMH levels had fluctuated over time and they’d had higher readings months / years later! My AFC was 17 so they said this was higher than expected and that more follicles could be hiding too. When I asked what this all meant they said they couldn’t really tell until I had my first round as people with low AMH sometimes don’t respond well to the stimulation drugs xxxx

I’m 37 so knew it wasn’t going to be really high. I guess I just have to wait and see how many eggs we get in 2 weeks 🙏🏼🤞🏽 X

Hi love,

The AMH and AFC are both very different. My AMH is 4.4 and my AFC was around 8-10. So I assumed since they could see those follicles then they would be full of eggs… I couldn’t be more wrong. On my egg retrieval’s I’ve only ever produced two eggs both times, so they don’t neccesaerily go hand in hand if that makes sense? Good luck on your stimms tomorrow 💝🤞🏼

Ah ok. Maybe that will be the same for me then. It’s all such a big rollercoaster of emotions! Cant wait for it to be over to be honest 😩 x

Hi I never understood how I had such a low amh & 7 folicules each side…. & the fertility clinic never explained this. I responded poorly to ivf & did the amh test a month after the cycle…. However 4 years later I was told to get donor eggs…. & no further support would be supplied…That month I conceived my baby boy with my own eggs 3 years after having a low amh of 3.8…. Feel free to read my profile hope it helps x

I had AMH at 1.9 and about 5 follicles. That could about match you scan.

Thank you. I guess it’s just a waiting game to see 👍🏻

I've had 4 AMH results since April and two of them are the same (ie high) and two of them are low-ish!All done in different labs, the first and the last one were low and the middle two were like,WOW!

It’s not good for our mental health is it! 🙈 I will see what my results are at egg collection and maybe get another test done after!

There really are no guarantees with egg freezing - personally I think you've made a great decision by freezing embryos not eggs!

I did 3 egg freezing cycles in my late 30s, I had a total of 14 eggs frozen which I wanted to use this year (I'm now 42) with donor sperm. Only 2 of 14 eggs survived the thaw, and that resulted in 1 embryo (transferred, no pregnancy).

That is an unusually bad result and certainly not the typical survival rate - but if I'd have known more at the time about the poor success rates with egg freezing I'd probably have gone for the donor route. Having some good embryos in the bank is such a great position to be in.

I'm now going down the double donor route which I'm fine with, but obviously it would have been preferable to use my own eggs.

Good luck with the egg collection!

Thank you! It’s just something I never thought about until the vaccine warnings at the beginning with Covid and I just had a gut feeling I should get checked. Lucky i did so I know what I’m working with! Hopefully I will have something to show for it at the end 🙏🏼

I actually think you did the right thing by going after embryos instead of freezing eggs. At the age of 37, the quality of our eggs is not the greatest regardless of how many follicles/eggs you have. This way you are giving yourself the best shot at success, even if it makes you feel like you overpaid.

Hi! I'm also baffled by AMH, the NHS told me it's impossible for it to go up, will only go down. But private consultant said it can fluctuate month to month. My AFC has always been 8-14, and my AMH Is bellow 1. x
