First round - low amh

Hello,

After 18 months ttc we found out that My amh is 5 which is really low for my age (30). We have decided to start private ivf treatment in October and we are also going to NHS appointments in the meantime but our area has been in the news recently for cuts to funding for ivf treatment so I am expecting it to take a while.

I wondered whether anyone could share their experiences of having early low egg reserve and hopefully some success stories?

Many thanks in advance.

Justine

Hi Justine

I too was told I had a low egg reserve at the age of 30. My amh was 0.78 at the last test and I am now 31. We've had 4 rounds of IVF with ICSI so far as we also have male fertility issues. Unfortunately none has resulted in a BFP yet however on the last round I had 3 mature eggs collected (this was on a short, naturally modified protocol meaning lower doses of drugs) which was more than expected. The clinic believe they did not fertilise due to my OHs sample on the day.

I would say low reserve doesn't necessarily mean poor quality eggs and it's only one good quality egg you need so stay positive. I read 'it starts with the egg' by Rebecca Fett which I found helpful and folllowed some of the guidance on how to improve egg quality. I am starting my 5th and probably last cycle in the next couple of weeks so we may be going through it at the same time. Wishing you lots of luck in your journey xx

I second "it starts with the egg" and if you have chance the "his and hers IVF guide" - both have been really useful.

Best of luck with your journey x

I've just completed my first round of ivf.

I'm 34 and my amh is 2.57, at egg collection 11 eggs were collected which I was really pleased about as the initial scans were only showing 2 follicles and a few days later 6.

Doctors at your clinic will put you on the protocol that they believe will work best for you.

Good luck. Xx

Hi Justine,

My AMH is the same as yours and my FSH is 24. I went through IVF in May/June this year having been told I would likely not produce many eggs and that it may not work. I read "It starts with the egg" also, started taking Ubiquinol, having acupuncture and I cut out caffeine and changed my diet a bit (just ate healthily really) in the lead up to my treatment. I went through long protocol on a high dosage of Menopur, which I didn't find too gruelling. I only produced one viable egg in the end, but it fertilised and stuck and I am now 16 weeks pregnant!

As Blue_penguin has said, low AMH doesn't necessarily mean low quality on the egg front, I just tried to do all I could to help the quality and it seemed to work for me with my one embryo! I am also nearly 36, so you have age on your side for sure. All the best with your journey, there are definitely quite a few success stories on this forum from people with low AMH xx

Hiya, sorry to hear that you are going through a hard time. My amh level when I was 29 was 7.6 this was low for my age to. My first cycle I produced 3 eggs and that cycle didn't work. However my second cycle they changed the medication I was on and I produced 13! Although that cycle didn't give me a baby I had a forzen cycle this year and .7 months pregnant. Please focus on having a healthy diet and just trying to reduce stress. Good luck and here if you need anything else answered x

Hey I'm 33 with amh 6.9 (I was really worried about my number but they said not to dwell on it so I don't know if it's good or bad?)

I produced 10 eggs on my first round, 8 were mature and 4 fertilised. 1 was frozen and 1 transferred. I'm in my 2ww so fingers crossed for this Friday that it's a positive x

I’m similar to you but older - 35 and amh 6.9. All this means is you need more drugs as your body will not respond as well so don’t expect 15-20 eggs. On my second round now, I was told to take dhea to get smaller follicles to respond better to the drugs so they can get more eggs. Not proven but the consultant still recommended it for 3 months. So maybe consider taking it to make your 1st round as good as possible, few spots are the main side effects for me.
