Start to finish (for those lucky enough)

Just out of interest how long has it taken you (for those who have made it to the other end of the tunnel) to get from fertility clinic referral to having a baby in your arms? We were referred in the summer of 2019 but obviously Covid delayed us starting treatment (by 10 months) and it has been a year now since we officially started meds. Sending so much good luck to you all for 2022 xxx

Hello,

I’m 30 weeks pregnant, and it’s taken us two cycles and four transfers. I was first referred privately in August 2020, with my first appointment in mid-September 2020. Started cycle one in October 2020 and changed clinics in June 2021 (after three unsuccessful transfers) before starting cycle 2/transfer 4 that led to me getting my BFP in July 2021. So it’s been really fast moving, I’ve squashed a lot into that time period which makes me very fortunate as I know not everyone has been able to move as quickly and I’m also lucky that it worked the fourth time for us as again, not everyone is as fortunate and they’re still on their journeys.

Lots of luck on your journey 🌈✨💜 x

Four years - I hope your journey is quicker than mine :)

5 years to get my two - it took 3 fresh transfers, with a change of clinics after 2, to have my first baba. Then 3 FETs to fall pregnant with my second (I had a mmc at 8 weeks after the second FET). I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. Good luck!

Well I’m not there yet but let’s assume all is fine and it’s bang on time it will be 3 years and 3 months. This accounts for starting in Feb/March 2018 with a year of trying naturally after being referred, two sperm tests, a hycosy all in this year and finally being referred for ivf which we did in Feb 2019 - I had polyps so went on a wait list to have them removed. Covid hit. I couldn’t have the polyps removed. Fell naturally pregnant, miscarried - back on the list for polyp removal - May 2020 - July FET transfer - failed. September transfer has worked - and so here we are. I hope your process is quicker than mine although all delays were mostly due to things out of control (except for the nhs wait times which weren’t the longest I’ve known) 🤞

I was referred in July 2020, had our first appointment in September. Started meds in November, collection in December. 2 failed transfers, 1 fresh 1 frozen. 3rd transfer in April, BFP and my precious boy was born on the 30th December 2021! Good luck in your journey xx

Years to get the GP referral bit, but I think around 10 months from NHS clinic referral to starring meds (had to have various tests, plus get thyroid to level they wanted which took around 3 months). Then covid hit and our cycle was cancelled just before transfer and we had to wait another year. Had an early loss from cycle after lockdowns and went private (NHS waits in our area even on FETs are huge). That was super-quick in comparison - one cycle, one fresh and one frozen transfer within around 4 months from first phone call with the clinic, and am due in April, so just over a year? NHS (ignoring the lockdown year delay) would have been more like a year-18months to get to a fresh transfer, maybe 6 more for a FET (plus 9 months if it had worked).

I think we were unusually quick. Referred Dec, seen January, started Meds end of Feb, success on first cycle and daughter born December. So 12 months. But it took 12 months prior to that to get a referral.

Trying for a 2nd child has sadly been far from easy. Still trying 🤞

You mean NHS or privately? If the latter, I had my first appointment in April '21 and embryo transfer at the end of June. Now 32 weeks. [This came after 3 failed IUIs and one round of IVF so not the smoothest sailing it sounds like but still counting my blessings, obviously!] 2 months in total.

If you mean the NHS, the GP referred me in Sept 2020 for diagnostics which I had already done but they wouldn't listen to me and insisted everything had to be repeated (waste of time and money). I got the referral to the fertility clinic finally in June 2021 by which point I had decided to pursue the private option. Which was a good idea because I got my first appointment letter from the IVF clinic for ... June 2022... So almost 2 yrs in total for the first NHS appt. Adding another few months for treatment I would assume. If you can afford it, crack on with it especially if you're nearing 40. I am 38. Best of luck. Xo

2 years from first appt with the fertility clinic till baby boy was born - we did some tests etc first, then it took three transfers (2 egg collections) to get pregnant. Now trying for a sibling, so far 3 transfers haven’t worked and we’re waiting for our next FET…. 🤞x

We were referred to our first fertility nhs clinic in August 2013 when we’d been TTC 2 years - discharged as I didn’t quality for nhs funded IVF treatment many issues with my periods with various gynaes led to another referral to another nhs fertility clinic in 2016. 4 failed rounds of clomid treatment and eventually a diagnosis of endometriosis in June 2017. Had first positive test in nearly 6 years of TTC but sadly was a chemical pregnancy. Had another 2 surgeries to treat my endometriosis last surgery July 2018 with an endo surgeon and conceived 2 months later and had our daughter Francesca in June 2019- took us 7 years to conceive her due a delayed diagnosis of my endometriosis. After losing our daughter Amelia at 20 weeks pregnant November 2020 and 2 early miscarriages last year we are now 34 weeks pregnant with another little girl. When she is due would’ve 11 years and a half since we started TTC to complete our family. Hope yours is a much shorter and easier journey! Xx
