Egg Donation - Spain
Our NHS clinic partners with instituto bernabeu and we’ve have had a great experience with them, from initial consultation to transfer in Alicante. Currently 7 weeks pregnant after first IVF. This after 15yrs of trying it feels like a miracle.
That’s fantastic! So happy for you!!!Thanks for letting me know.
Out of interest, do you know what the clinic did differently? x
The Spanish clinic have a large number of options for donors from across Europe. Unlike the UK, Egg donation is anonymous in Spain and this means there is a good number of available donors they can review and match against your own physical characteristics and genetic compatibility.
For us there was no option for using my own eggs or even have a Uk donor as there was none available. It’s early days but we are really happy with the support provided by them and our NHS clinic as they conducted all my scans and prep ahead of travelling to Spain.
That’s amazing! So very happy for you. Thanks for all the information xx
Hi Pos1tivelybaby, I went to IM Barcelona for my first cycle of egg donation. It was successful but unfortunately I had an early miscarriage. I am planning on having another round with the same clinic once I have picked myself up again. Have you made any progress with selecting clinic?
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m glad you’re back on track.I’m a bit all over the place at the moment. I had decided to go with IM until I was advised my scans show adenomyosis and I’d need to take injections for 2 months before the round. I totally disagree with that diagnosis and have been asked to have an MRI to be sure. It’s made me question their judgement and I need to be comfortable with going with them.
That’s where I am. I’m conscious my fibroids and possible adhesions are complications, so those have to be addressed first. I hope I pull myself out of the funk I’m in soon, the journey just feels endless.
Wishing you the best of luck in your next round, I have a good feeling for you xx
That is so frustrating for you. It is so hard to keep going isn’t it. I think it is hard for overseas clinics to get an accurate picture without actually seeing you. One clinic (Czech Republic) advised that I needed to have a coloscopy. This would have been expensive and as it turns out unnecessary. I was worried though so I decided to take a trip to Barcelona to see IM and ask them their opinion in person. They examined me and did a scan (no coloscopy). I found it reassuring knowing they had seen me first hand. It was also easier going back for a transfer having already visited the clinic and knowing I felt comfortable there. In the end our experience with them wasn’t 100% positive. There were some niggles but on the whole I’d recommend them and we will probably use them again. Whichever clinic you choose, you need to have confidence in them. It is worth considering visiting in advance. This does have implications in terms of time and money but a trip to the sunshine is good for the soul. Good luck with your journey x
Thank you for your kind words and advice.I appreciate it must be hard to give advice without seeing patients, I just wish these clinics were a bit more cautious and measured in the advice they give.
It’s a good idea to visit the clinic. I will get an MRI, send it to them and go from there. I’m going to go with my gut and trust it will help me make the right decision for me.
Wishing you all the best and fingers crossed for good news soon for you xx
hello, would you mind sharing some of the suggestions you received? If it’s not to personal, would you mind sharing if you went ahead with one of the clinics. Any information on the process, cost and any advice you have or reading materials you recommend would be much appreciated. I hope all went well.
