hi Ladies, I’m about to start my actual cycle of ivf with donor eggs in a couple of weeks time in Madrid, Spain . I’d love to hear from ladies who have been through this in Spain to understand how the cycle schedule runs I.e. what day in the cycle did they have to go there for sperm donation, did they have any scans just before ET etc? We don’t have frozen sperm there so will need to be there for fresh.
The clinic won’t give any information until day 1 but I need to have some idea so I work out how long we’ll need to be there and give work a heads up, line up pet care etc etc!
thanks a lot in advance.

Hi, we went to czech Republic but I am guessing it will be similar procedure. I had a decapetyl injection to stop me from ovulating (can't remember which day of cycle but I think it was before my period was due). On day 1, I started progesterone. Around day 11, I had a scan to check lining. Our donor had egg collection around day 20. My partner did his sperm collection the same day and eggs were fertilised. I also took estrogen. I can't remember if I started that the same day as egg collection or before.
Five days after egg collection, we had a fresh transfer.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, let me know.
I had IVF in Spain as well with donor eggs. Your protocol might be different from mine but this is what I had.
- birth control to sync my period with my donor’s (Microgynon)
- once I was given the ok, I stopped birth control and had my period about 4 days later. And about the same time I started taking progesterone pessaries and Estradiol
- the clinic insisted on a fresh sperm sample so my partner travelled down on the day of egg collection, about Day 12-14. He took an antibiotic 48 hrs before
- ET was 5 days later
Because one of us had to be home to take care of our 5 year old, sperm sample was a day’s trip and ET was an overnight stay.
We are with a Spanish clinic, fresh and frozen transfers. For our fresh transfer they had me on birth control, I had a bleed then started on meds, we traveled to Spain for 2 weeks, within those 2 weeks they checked my lining and I started progesterone, they collected eggs from donor, husband gave sperm sample the same day, they provided an update on eggs the day after, 3rd and 5th day. I then had the transfer fresh on around day 8 or 9 of the 2 week holiday. The clinic will be able to give you an idea but not a specific day as depends on your donor egg progression!
For frozen transfer our treatment plan has been, the pill, bleed, scan in UK and then out to Spain for one day, we spent around 3 day as a mini holiday to relax but could be done in one day. It was planned on a day of my choosing.
I've just been to Madrid for my donor transfer - it was a piece of cake. My appointment was at 13.30, so I flew out in the morning, got the train into Madrid from the airport, had the progesterone test at the clinic and an hour later had the transfer. I flew back the same day and I'm now 4 weeks pregnant.
I had a scan in the UK on the 19th Jan, from that they gave me the date of the 30th Jan. Booked 1 day off work and the dog sitter. They'll tell you when your partner needs to go out, which should be on egg collection day, but I wouldn't stay out there for the whole time, unless you really want a week in Madrid. It's such an easy city to get to.
