Anonymous Egg Donation

Hi everyone

I’ve seen posts from various people having fertility treatment abroad and I was wondering if anyone could give any information about donor egg anonymity? I have been told it is likely the only way I’ll get pregnant is with a donor egg but the main thing stopping me is that the egg donor wouldn’t be anonymous in the UK. I’m not here for a debate about the ethics of not telling your child they’re from an egg donor but was wondering if anyone could suggest which countries to look into for a good balance of cost, quality treatment and anonymous egg donors.

Thanks

I’ve messaged you privately as we’re not allowed to name clinics here as it’s seen ad advertising. X

I went to Athens, partly for this reason and other part for costs, no waiting lists etc. You get matched to a donor with specific requirements to match your own eg blood type, hair colour, skin type, eye colour, build, weight but that's about it. We looked at Spain (which we found to be much more expensive) and Czech Rep which was similar and settled on Athens. Logistics has a lot to do with it, make sure you can travel all year round etc and the weather for me was a bonus as it was like a holiday! I'll PM you details.xxx

Thank you. I like the idea of being matched with similar attributes to me. Fortunately I have dark hair, dark eyes and tan easily so I’d hope that would be easy to find in a place like Greece or Spain!

Will do. I think we’re going to do one more cycle with my rubbishy eggs but want to have a back up plan in motion. Good luck with yours.

Us too!! We paid for multi cycle package but you know what if it makes my husband more content to know we tried everything possible! Then I happy to go through it to just get him onboard with a donor!

I am sorry if I made you feel that way . I am asking because I start IVF in London this Friday and at same we are heading to Cyprus for donor eggs in September. All arranged . Obviously I need to know something isn’t it?!

Lots of advice has been given about donor eggs, how to go about choosing your donor - I know I’ve given lots of advice on donor eggs and I had a known donor.

If your going to a clinic in Cyprus for donor eggs, unless someone on the forum has used a clinic in that country it maybe difficult to answer some of what you want to know as their protocols and laws maybe different from the UK and that of other EU countries so you would really need to take guidance from the clinic

I think it was your personal feeling which you didn’t need to post publicly as you dont know how other side will feel about it.

This is a site where we can support each other. Don’t mind those who have run out of support to give. Everyone is on an emotional and often painful journey. There are some great support sites in Facebook as well you just have to search for donor egg support group. Greece is great for costs. Thessaloniki and Athens are the top 2 places to find clinics. I heard Embryolab in Thessaloniki a great. Keep searching and asking for recommendations and I’m sure you’ll find the right place

Not going abroad but we signed up with a UK agency last week and had the full go ahead today. So we’re now officially going ahead and our amazing donor is being looked for. Scared but really excited 😀.

Hi JenRoy do you mind if I ask in which clinic you have started this procedure and perhaps more detailed info? It's a mind blowing info out there and I dont even know where to start from let alone decide where to go. Thank you very much :X

We went with a UK agency (Altrui) to find our donor which has been successful. We chose a clinic in London that was convenient for us and the donor.

Your options are either go abroad (cheaper, often quicker but fully anonymous with implications for donor conceived children) or stay in UK (ID release at 18 yrs of age for donor conceived child).

In the UK you can either use an agency to find you a donor (you pay them a fee) and then use a clinic that they work with or you can sign up with a clinic and join their donor waiting list. Not all clinics do donor egg treatment so you need to research which ones do. And the wait to get matched to a donor can be very long particularly at the moment.

I was thinking the same. The olny way I could be ok with DE was complete anonymity. Czech Republic has it, so I picked them. The quality of treatment is also great and prices are not crazy.

Greece does anonymous - most of Europe does.
