Fertility consultant said it’s up to me if I take dhea. My clinic won’t test Dhea levels. Where do I go to get relevant blood tests? Is it DHEA-s and testosterone that I need tested?
Any ladies here that didn’t take dhea, and with low amh that managed to have a successful cycle?

Hello, I took DHEA after my first cycle resulted in no embryos and had much better results for taking it. My clinic also won't test levels but you can do DHEA-S and testosterone via Medichecks. Good luck!
Dear Helen, which test on medicheck did you actually order? I had a look and for dhea sulfate it says "Are you concerned that your male hormones including DHEA-S are declining with age?"Would you be able to send me link to the blood tests you purchased please?
Yes - they send you an email with results and a scale and then I also looked at some info from itstartswiththeegg.com/faq/... in terms of trying to see whether my levels seemed about right. From my experience, I started taking 75mg a day but after a while my levels were too high, so had to reduce to 25mg a day
I took dhea but I have no idea if it helped. I did not have my dhea level tested prior. I thunk the studies on whether dhea helps are inconclusive, so it is more ‘take it in case it actually works’. My first cycle after taking dhea for just a short while was more successful than the subsequent ones when I was on the pills for longer…
Hey- I have love AMH and didn’t take DHEA and had a successful cycle. I got my levels tested with medichecks and I had low testosterone but my clinic weren’t that keen on DHEA for me so I didn’t bother with it. Good luck! Xx
I took it for 3 months with low Amh and got pregnant naturally. I am not sure where you are based but if it happens to be south west London I’d be happy to gift you my supplies for free!
you should try and take a micronized formulation at 75 mg/day. I took at the age of 43 and i think it really helped me conceive my son (and i think my leftover dhea helped my 43 year old friend with recurrent misccarriage conceive her son)
Thank you. I’ve bought the life extension DHEA - from iherb. I don’t know if that’s micronized though? Thanks for the article - very informative. My consultant mentioned a RCT done in Liverpool which showed no effect but with this meta- analysis there does seem to be positive influence with Dhea so I think I will take depending on my bloods results.
Definitely get your dhea/testosterone levels checked first - I have low AMh but my test showed dhea levels were actually high so those supplements could have hindered. Our ivf worked in April & I’m currently 28 weeks along.
Hey sorry I wondered if anyone could help. So I started 75mg DHEA. Initial bloods normal however after 4 weeks they are all abnormal. SHBG – 31 (32.4-128)
- Testosterone 3.57 (0.29-1.67)
- Free T calculated 0.071 (0 -0.03)
- Free andogen index 11.52 (0.2-7.1)
- DHEA = 20.4 (1.65-9.15)
Looking at zita west - I obviously on too high of a dose. I due IVF in Feb. So now worried I harmed the egg quality.
Hi! I understand how overwhelming navigating fertility issues can be, as I’ve faced similar challenges myself. When I was trying to conceive, I was diagnosed with low ovarian reserve, and my AMH levels were also on the lower side. One thing that made a significant difference for me was taking Clomid under the guidance of my doctor. It helped regulate my cycle and improve ovulation, which ultimately contributed to a successful outcome.
The main thing is that Clomid is of good quality, and that's exactly what I found in this reliable pharmacy — delivery-service24.com/buy-... The order arrived quickly, I definitely recommend it!
As for DHEA, it's commonly recommended for women with low AMH because it may improve egg quality. If you decide to go this route, the blood tests you’ll want are DHEA-S (to measure DHEA levels) and testosterone, as these will give insight into your androgen profile. Since your clinic doesn’t offer this, you can ask your general practitioner or look into private labs that provide fertility-related tests. While DHEA has helped many women, it’s always best to proceed cautiously and under supervision, as hormone balance is delicate.
Lastly, there are success stories of women with low AMH who didn’t use DHEA but focused on other strategies like tailored stimulation protocols, supplements like CoQ10, and stress management. Keep hope alive and trust that there are paths forward. ✨
