Negative test after 14 days but strange bleed

Hi everyone. First time poster here! Quick recap: 40 Yr old, never been pregnant. First full Ivf round complete. 13 eggs collected, 12 matured, 2 fertilitised, 2 implanted at day 3. Sperm etc good.

I've just received a negative test result on day 14. On day 11, I started spotting light pink when I wipe and there has been a lot of old brown discharge as well as some watery clear brownish discharge. Full period has definitely not arrived - no red blood, no clots. I'm just a bit confused if that is my period or what that bleeding is?

Thanks in advance everyone. I'm a bit gutted and wonder if I have a 2nd round in me xxx

I'm sorry to hear about your cycle, how are you coping?

The drugs often knock your body about so can take a while to get back to normal.

Pls don't give up, I felt exactly like you after round 1. We get so emotional with all hopes in the basket and guts us when the worst news given ☹️.

My partner talked me into round 2 much to my reluctance but so glad her did otherwise I wouldn't have my 2 miracles.

Take care and be kind to yourself, lots of stuff you like but couldn't have while stimming. Wish you all the best and hope you find that spark to keep you going for round two.

Sending a massive hug, it's hard!

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm not coping that great, I just feel hopeless at my age the chances are so small and I don't see how another round will work.

It's such a hard road to be on xx

Sorry to hear this, often your period doesn't come properly until you have stopped taking all the drugs, and like bkabka says all the drugs do weird things to your body.

Don't feel defeated by your age. You are actually quite young in terms of chances of success and its very feasible your next round might be a success. There are women on here getting pregnant at 45!

The first round is often a real learning round for both your body and your consultant. But they will have discovered loads of stuff about you, how you have reacted etc so if you do do another round everyone will be much better informed.

Its absolutely gutting when the first round doesn't work. You secretly hope it will be the magic fix you are looking for! But is quite unusual for it to work so don't be defeated just because it hasn't.

Take some time though. You sort of need to grieve what might have been after all the efforts you have put in. But you do tend to bounce back and get back on it again as it is the fix we are looking for for so many people. Sending hugs xx

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I hear everything you're saying. I really hoped I'd be one of the lucky ones.

It's just such a blow and makes you fearful of the future. My husband is taking it particularly badly - I think they are often overlooked in this process (welll I know I did, I hadn't realised he was struggling) so that's added to my worry x

Hi.I am sure you will get a normal bleed but it may take a few days. I think my clinic say up to a week so do contact the clinic if needed.

It is normally to feel down after a failed cycle but please don’t give you. It’s tough on the body but you will recover to start again. I found easing back into gentle exercise helpful.

Also you got a great number of eggs but low fertilisation rate. Did you use ICSI?

Thank you for your lovely reply. No this time was ivf, that's standard practice in my health trust. I did question why they wouldnt use icsi as it seemed a better option and could have yielded at least a couple of freezer embies.

They did say that my egg retrieval levels were excellent for my age and also that they all matured was good too. I would imagine another treatment plan would be icsi but the waiting times in Northern Ireland even for private, is 5 months and I just feel like I don't have that time to spare. I'm 41 in April.

My other option is to travel to Dublin (2 hours drive) and go private there more quickly. Xx

That’s such a long wait for private treatment. We opted for ICSI even though sperm parameters were fine simply because older eggs can have a harder shell or something like that. I understand about the age thing but to give you hope so far my second cycle has been successful at 40. I wanted to get my eggs out as quick as possible as I could only see them deteriorating further and I was already on so many supplements and had a healthy diet. That was my way of coping but some people find a break helpful. It might be worth having a few private consultations so you know what options you have and you and your husband can discuss what’s best x

Oh how wonderful to hear such great news! Congratulations!

Yes I'm very much forging ahead and deal with the anguish later type of person 😂 so I want to carry on and get the eggs out now if I'm lucky enough.

I've just booked a private consultation with my NHS doctor (oh the irony, plus he's wayyyyyyyy more expensive this time lol) for end of November so fingers crossed I can be treated quickly as he knows my background xxx
