Implantation bleeding?

Hi,My girlfriend and I are on our first round of IVF. I'm 6 days post transfer. Earlier this week (2 days post transfer), I had awful lower back pain. It was there all day then by the next day it was gone. Had a few stomach cramps but none since 4 days post transfer. However, yesterday (5 days post transfer), I noticed a dark brown discharge. It's been 24 hours and while has become a slightly lighter brown, it is still brown and is slowing down. It's a real rollercoaster as we're just unsure if it's going to be my period, a result of the pessaries or implantation bleeding. Has anyone got any thoughts on this please? TIA x

Hi Sarah24601, I believe it is quite normal to have the cramping due to the medications and pessaries, the progesterone caused me to have some cramping the whole time, but could also be due to implantation, as could the brown discharge as this usually occurs 1-5 days post transfer. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼 that everything goes well :) xx

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Sadly the brown turned red this morning and AF arrived 😞.

We'll still take our test as instructed but we're fairly certain that this round has sadly failed. 😢. xx

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear this. You are not alone, I’m going through exact the same thing… two days ago period started and every day seems to be getting heavier… doctors still instructed to do the test on day 15 which is tomorrow, I’m dreading that this will be negative…

Hello, could be any or all of the above! Could be a really good sign of implantation, or could be a sign your period is trying to break through, or more likely it is all just symptoms from the drugs. Unfortunately you won't know at this stage so just have to wait it out sadly and see what happens next. Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. You were correct and unfortunately it was my period which managed to break through this morning. So we sadly think that this round has failed 😢.

Aww I'm so sorry. This happened in my first round. In subsequent rounds I've been given extra progesterone and have not had the same issue again.

hey 👋🏼 such a nervous time the wait! I think you answered your own question really it could be any of the 3 and I’ve had all those scenarios and there is just no way to know until you test. Your test should be pretty accurate soon so not long to wait to find out which! Good luck 🤞🏽 🤗 xx

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately AF turned up this morning, making us think that sadly, this round hasn't worked 😢. We'll take test as instructed but it's looking unlikely 😔 xx

I remember being really worried when I had brown and light pink bleeding around 5dpt. I thought it was all over but I have twins from that transfer. It does make us worry but is perfectly normal. X

Thank you for your reply. Congratulations on your twins 🙂. Unfortunately this round wasn't meant to be and AF arrived. Will take test as instructed but it's looking unlikely to be a positive. 😢 x

hello, just sending you lots of luck for this transfer. I agree with the above and unfortunately it could mean any of the three scenarios. I’ve found writing a diary of my symptoms helpful. I then compare back to a previous transfer when I’m experiencing symptoms. Really hope the 1st round works for you. Xxx

Hi Sarah, I’m sorry to hear that. Many of us on this forum fully understand how you feel. I hope the next cycle works. Thinking of you both. X

Could definitely be implantation bleeding! Sounds positive so far!!! So hard to tell with most things as the drugs mimic the pregnancy symptoms! But it's all looking good stay positive and PUPO!!! When's test day?

Thanks for the reply. Sadly AF arrived and so it's looking likely this round has failed 😢. Will do test when due which is Wednesday but we're not holding much hope, unfortunately.

It might be worth getting your HCG done to be sure, it will also hopefully tell you if there was any implantation - even if it didn't last - as that can be a helpful diagnostic. My consultant said there shouldn't be break through bleeding if the progesterone is working properly (even if not pregnant/had a loss) so after two early losses, one of which I had bleeding before OTD, we changed and upped the progesterone and that one was successful.

Thank you for the advice. I think it's something that's due to be discussed by the clinic this week about which medication might work better next time or the amount.

Good luck to you. Unfortunately I had a negative pregnancy test on Wednesday. We have a frozen embryo so hopefully the next one will be more successful. Good luck to you 🙂.
