ivf attempt abandoned due to lack of stimulation following medication

Does anyone have experience of abandoned ivf at this early stage? I am aged 41 and before IVF had a miscarriage - the Dr has advised not to continue with IVF as it is unlikely to be successful due to the above and my low hormone levels. Im shocked that my IVF journey has been so short and unsuccessful.

Sorry to read this….. and is that it? Isn’t the dr going to try different drugs or protocol ? Wasn’t anything else suggested ? Did he mean

This cycle or ivf in general? Should you try to speak to the dr again?

Sorry - yes to ivf in general.

If the medication hasnt worked then the only other option is egg donation. There was no mention of any alternative drugs being available. It seems my pregnancy journey has been so long but the ivf journey has been very short and brutal.

I will speak to him again when ive gathered my questions together, thank u x

I would definitely speak to them again, it might be that this time had to stop but next time with stronger medication you are in with a shot? If not I would seriously consider going to another clinic for a second opinion. xx

Hello, thank you.

I was on the highest dosage and it didnt stimulate my ovaries, they gave me a couple of extra days but still saw no improvement, so I never even made it to egg collection stage. He said if the medication has failed then it wouldnt work even if we tried again so that isnt an option.

He is calling back in a few weeks so I can ask some more questions then, from what he said last time the only option would be egg donation. X

Hi love. Sorry to hear about the cancelled cycle 😔.

Not to give any false hope, but I’ve read so many experiences on here where people changed clinics because of this and got a much better response to a new protocol and so gave IVF another go. Not sure if that’s an option for you?My clinic want to do a trial run of mild protocol for a few months to see how I respond before going into IVF - I think for this very same reason. I have rock-bottom AMH at 0.08 or something (aged 36), So I’m at risk of being a poor responder. But for me personally I wouldn’t give up so soon - so have a think for yourself about whether you want to try again (persuasion or a different clinic), or take their advice. The door doesn’t have to be closed yet hun, if you don’t want it to be. Maybe take some time and see how you feel xx

Best wishes 💕

Sorry to hear about your IVF journey. But please if you have the energy and you want to keep trying go to a different clinic for a second opinion. There is a lady called the egg whisperer (in the US) called Dr Aimee Eyvazzadeh who you will be able to find on google or Instagram and I honestly think she is someone you should talk to xx

I’m so sorry! But every cycle is different. Worth a second opinion at a different clinic? I’m in the highest dose of the stimulation and I don’t get a great number of eggs. It’s hard when you see other women getting huge numbers, I’m 38 and blame me age. But you only need one good one. Good luck, keep looking at options x

I was 41 when I started ivf (and fingers crossed all goes well I am now 43 and 24 weeks ). I had very low amh and at first meds didn’t work, first 5 rounds got one or two per round. Then after Covid shut down and a little break switched doctors as they made mine retire and with new doctor I was put on Dhea and Co Q10 (I have read they take 6 months to improve egg quality and it worked for me actually 6 months later so) as well as estrogen prior to starting to the regular protocol. Then all of a sudden I was getting 3-4 eggs the next 5 rounds. I never had a miscarriage because I only ever did one transfer .. we also paid to have them All genetically tested for chromosome abnormalities.. and as is normal I’m your 40s none until the last one we got were chromosomal normal ..which is usually the cause of miscarriage..after testing they found one in the last round and transferred it and it worked. Fingers crossed and praying

Morning, I’m so sorry to hear this. The exact same happened to us at the beginning of the pandemic last year, abandoned cycle due to poor response. Fast forward to this year and at a different clinic and with higher stims meds spilt over the course of the day we had 4 high quality embryos at day five blastocyst. This was after being initially told at the first place it was very unlikely to happen. I also took DHEA and CO Q10 along with a good quality cod lover oil. I hope this helps and it maybe worth getting second opinion , take care 💕x

I also had my first IVF cycle canceled (age 40) due to no response. I have very low AMH. The 2nd cycle on max stims only produced one egg, which I get every month anyway without stims, so IVF was not useful in my case. I did some research and found out that natural or modified IVF with very low stims or no stims works better for poor responders. I ended up doing IUIs on clomid, got blighted ovum but then I just kept trying naturally for over 12mo and got pregnant age 42.

I got to a clinic that the doctor said in order to offer ivf the AMH has to be over 0.4. But my friend had that figure, she changed clinic and stim to “natural” or modified ivf in which they check the quality and not quantity, she has a boy now

Just my experience .. have always been a poor responder, 4 cycles iv done in total. First only 3 follies, second no response, third 1 follie egg retrieval and no egg in it, 4th cycle just had 12 follies, 10 collected, 6 mature and 4 blasts.. I def think protocols can ha e alot to do with it. I had to do testosterone priming on my last cycle. .. wishing u the very best of luck x

Hello... thats great in contrast to the others. Did you use testogel? And for how long?

Yep was a massive change .. no just used DHEA which naturally helped the testosterone.. I was low to begin with however .. and would recommend getting tested for DHEAs and testosterone before taking anything. Did it for about 2 and half weeks

I agree with some of the ladies….switch clinics. I have read of dozens of stories where women your age and older got pregnant. Don’t give up! Nope.

Switch clinics like others have said.

It might be abound by the nhs but you still might have high chance. Nhs is checking the level of Anti-Müllerian hormone, if it is lower than 1,2 they might refuse the treatment. But if you have some folics ivf might work. Need to go private, not nhs
