Been through a really difficult cycle of ivf... More medications than last time, more complications...
My ovaries got over stimulated, had more than 20 eggs, so been through lots of discomfort, got terrible constipation caused by all those hormones but got 14 eggs fertalised which made me really happy... at this point I thought it was worth all the pain and struggle as we have a better chance this time specially coz we were improving both egg and sperm quality...
Until i have found out today that only 1 embryo survived the process... Which they will have to freeze as its safer that way after the over stimulation...
I am so upset as I thought things gonna get better this time but they have got worse... Now I am worried the quality of eggs and sperm werent great enough so that one just got lucky but not actually a strong one...
I went into this cycle with such a great hope but I just got hopeless after the news...
Has this happened to anyone else who has an explanation why can it happen or anybody who had the same issue but ended up with a healthy pregnancy? I really need some success stories to keep me going...

Hi there. I had 14 eggs retrieved, 12 mature, 8 fertilised, all going strong till day 3. Then most arrested. We had one 4AB transferred and I’m 10 weeks pregnant. I had two morulas but they didn’t catch up so had nothing to freeze. I also was over stimmed and ended up with very high estradiol and feeling rotten. I’m still very anxious about it sticking but I am hoping it’s the best of the bunch!
In my case we knew we might not make any embryos as my husband has poor quality sperm, but I’m hoping the one we did find is the strongest of the lot and we’ve weeded out the rest. It felt awful to get so many eggs and end up with one, but I remind myself it really does only take one.
You could see if your clinic recommends a sperm DNA fragmentation test. It’s pricey but may help give some insights into what’s going on there - sadly it’s harder to assess quality of eggs.

Hi Magic, don’t give up hope. I had my first IVF cycle at the start of this year. Unexplained infertility so we weren’t really expecting any issues, as all the tests we’d had indicated everything was normal.
All started well with 17 eggs collected, 13 fertilised but half had stopped developing by day 3/4. We ended up with only 2 low grade (C) blasts. Clinic transferred both and now I’m 23 weeks pregnant with a baby boy!
The level of drop off was a big shock but all has worked out. Seems I might have poor egg quality, hence the bad development early on (clinic said this round indicated bad egg quality but couldn’t diagnose as a 2nd round of IVF could have very different results). I can’t quite get my head around how this 1 could be so different from the rest, but it is. I’ve had a great pregnancy so far with no issues. Hopefully your embryo will be the same - it absolutely can happen. Keep believing!
Hi MagicTourmaline. Oh that's so sad to hear. Obviously you need to recover from the over stimulation, then you can use your remaining embryo. you may prefer to try again, to add to that little one. They would probably approach another cycle slightly differently, to hopefully prevent further over stimulation. Good luck! Diane
First cycle we got 15 eggs, 12 fertilised, only 2 made it to blastocyst…. Tried both (one at a time) and both failed. Second cycle - 17 eggs, 13 fertilised, again only 2 made it to blastocyst…. But one worked! And we had a healthy baby boy. Now trying for a sibling, got 16 eggs, 13 fertilised, one was transferred on day 5 and 2 in the freezer .
It’s super painful when so many don’t make it but you only need one good one 🤞🤞☺️ Xx

One by one they make me feel better and better and gives me back the hope which has faded after the news...But you all lovely ladies bit by bit giving it back to me and I am so grateful for that... I have to be positive to make it work... ❤
