Hi, I am 29 with mild PCO and two totally occluded Fallopian tubes, hence IVF. I am in a same sex partnership so using high quality frozen donor sperm. I had my egg collection yesterday and got 26 which I thought was great, only to hear today that only five fertilised. They say it could be due to OHSS and have given me blood thinners. I can’t even risk a fresh transfer.
After finding out about my Fallopian tubes and now this, I just feel like there’s no chance and I could just curl up into a ball. I feel so down, and I have seven days of blood thinning injections which just takes the cake! I don’t really know what advice or help I am looking for, not even sure if I can afford to continue because the NHS say same sex couples need to fail six times before they’ll even look at you!
I would love to hear that some people have succeeded with only five, but it is just so much less than I expected and I am bitterly disappointed.
I had 6 fertilise out of 27, have PCO. Currently 9 weeks pregnant with twins. I cried when i got the fertilisation info and was planning the next cycle. In my case they targeted smaller numbers of good quality eggs, you just tend to have tons with the PCO, many of which will be immature. We did a fresh transfer but it was my 3rd and I dont seem to suffer with ohss so they were happy to go ahead. Easy for me to say but try and stay positive you still have a good number there xx

That is good to hear! I know it’s related to PCO for sure- maybe I had unrealistic expectations of how many would fertilise but it’s so hard to know in advance. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

Thank you. This round was actually the worst fertilisation rate of the 3, but i know they have said a number of times you may get less eggs but better quality. I know how it feels to get lots of eggs and have high expectations, you just have to trust the doctors. I hope the updates from the embryologist help to reassure you and you have a positive outcome xx
I understand how you feel- because we can’t ‘try’ before getting medicine involved I naively assumed I would find this easy which was very silly of me! I have got 4 embryos still going so I am hoping they will all be strong enough to freeze and thaw...
It’s good you are well enough to be considered for a fresh transfer! Good luck.
Hi there, I had 30 collected and only 4 fertilised and after 5 days and PGS testing, I've only ended up one which I'm transferring on Wednesday. I will let you know how it goes
