5 fertilised eggs, 1 still trying ICSI

Good morning,

Yesterday I had my egg collection and they managed to collect 20 eggs, which I really wasn't expecting as I have a low AMH so was extremely happy. This morning I received that dreaded call to say 14 out of the 20 were mature, 5 have fertilised normally and 1 is trying to fertilise. I now need to wait until Sunday for the next update but I'm so anxious.

During our 1st round we only managed to get 2 eggs which fertilised and they made it all the way to blastocysts with a top quality grading - sadly one didn't implant and the other ended in an embryonic pregnancy.

If anyone else can share some success stories with me regarding their eggs which fertilised and made it all the way to day 5 I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks x

20 eggs is amazing, the drop in numbers is so scary and hard.

I had 2 mature and 1 made it to early blastocyst.

This time round I had 3 mature and only 1 is looking good again.

What meds were you on to get such a high number?

Hi Greenleaves,

Yes it was amazing, I honestly didn't expect it so it was a huge shock. When I spoke to the Dr on Monday she predicted around 8-10 eggs. We managed to retrieve 15 on my first cycle so this time round was much better.

After my first cycle of ISCI we had a really low fertilisation rate so my clinic decided to alter my meds slightly so try and get more eggs. The first cycle I was on 375 ovaleap and the second cycle 300 ovaleap and 75 meriofert. It seems to have done the trick regarding number or eggs but I'm praying that we get a good number from those fertilised ones.

H WMolly. Looking good so far. There are plenty of super stories out there, I’ve got the pictures to prove it. I’m sure you will hear of some soon. Good luck. Diane

my last round I got 15 eggs, 9 mature, 6 fertilised, 3 Blast but one of the blasts is not the best grade as it didn’t make blast until day 6 xx

In my last round 16 x eggs collected, 7 fertilised, 2 x good quality blastocysts were formed, and both were normal post PGTA testing. Keep faith and good luck x

It can be heart breaking to have a large number collected and only a few fertilise. But keep story, the 5 might be all good quality. May I ask, how old you are?

Thank you Nakijo. Our only two that fertilised in the first round made it all the way to top grade blastocysts so I'm hoping for the best with these 5. I've just turned 36.

hello, I had 17 eggs collected & 16 of them were mature, we had a high abnormal fertilisation rate where more than 1 sperm got into the egg so we lost 7 ( they said if we had to collect again we would have to have ICSI to prevent this) Of the remaining we had 4 that fertilised normally & 1 that showed signs of fertilisation but was v slow. The rest didn’t really do anything. I was so upset by the number drop but had been warned by a friend who had 30 eggs !!! And ended up with 1 blast (her baby girl is now 18 months) We eventually ended up with 2 top quality blasts - 1 transferred & 1 froze (I am currently 22 wks pregnant) wishing you lots of luck 🤞🏼💞 x

Day 3 update

Currently have 4 embryos still going graded good/reasonable and one which is still in culture and could potentially catch up.

Still keeping my fingers crossed 🤞

I've asked for more info as I feel this was very vague.

Hello, I just wanted to say that I have received a very similar result today. I had 16 eggs yesterday and only 5 fertilised. Really hope you are doing ok and wishing you all the best with your treatment x

Thank you so much ❤️ 3 embryos made it to day 5 blastocysts. I've sadly had one fresh transfer fail and the other two are currently waiting for me in the freezer. Really wishing you all the best. I know how difficult it is to receive a lower than expected fertilisation rate but definitely don't let that get you down. In my first round only 2 fertilised and they both made it to top quality blasts. Thinking of you xx

Thank you so much, this is very reassuring and nice to know I am not alone! Sorry to hear your transfer failed but fingers crossed you’ll succeed with a FET ❤️
