First IVF: Menopur question!

FrancyItaly profile image

I am on day 5 of stims and I will have my 5th Menopur injection tonight and first scan tomorrow. I just went to the bathroom and I have loads of stretchy egg while mucus, never seen anything like it. My question is what happens if I ovulate early before egg collection? It happened to me once that I naturally ovulated on day 8 of my cycle.

Yeah I am sure I had a scan before starting my other injections but mine was cetrotide. Can’t remember if it was after the first or second scan. Sorry it was last year and I stupidly didn’t write it down xx

No worries. Hopefully it’s ok to wait until tomorrow, after all it’s only mucus and it might not mean I’m about to ovulate! I remember you had a BFP right? Xx

Exactly, I have seen a few ladies asking about the mucus but it was fine. Yes I did from my frozen round which was from the batch I used Menopur so fingers crossed for you xxx

Same here - apparently it’s a sign the hormones are working…. :) you’ll probably be starting Cetrotide soon? That’s the one that stops you ovulating :) good luck xx

Not Cetrotide but they gave me 6 Fyremadel, egg collection is scheduled for 26th July (for now) so I guess I’ll start these soon if it’s one per day. How are you doing? Xx

Ah that’s good - yes i think they do the same thing , and yes it’s one per day :) I’m ok! Still feeling bloated after egg collection on Thursday, but other than that pretty ok, waiting to see if I’m ok for transfer on Tuesday or not…. 🤞 xx

Oh wishing you all the best, may this be your time! 🥰 Are you getting updates on how your embryos are developing? Xx

Thank you! No - they’ve opted for a less intense approach for reporting , which I’m good with - they’ll let me know Tuesday morning how they’re doing. We’ve done this twice before, and each time we had great numbers up until day 4 (10-12 still going strong) and then a huge drop ending up with only 2 viable day five blastos - so I’m half expecting the same again…. We had 13 fertilise normally this time. We’ll see 🤞😊 How are you feeling? xx

I hope it will be successful this time! 🥰 I’m feeling totally fine, as if I am not even doing anything. I’m only on day 6, so plenty of time for side effects and anxiety to show up! Xx

I had this too and the nurse said it was a good sign 😊 I was also taking Buserelin and she said that meant I definitely wouldn't ovulate, even though I felt like I was about to! Best of luck with your treatment 🍀

The mucous is a completely normal side effect of the stimulation. My clinic introduce another medication alongside stimulation at day 6 which blocks the hormonal surge which would trigger ovulation. Hopefully the scan will give you some reassurance that all is progressing well

Thank you! I’m going for a scan now, it’s day 6 for me and hopefully I will start the other medication today! Xx

I'm currently on day 6 of my cycle, been on Meno and Gonal since Thursday and have the same mucus thing happening. I have my second scan this afternoon and expect to start on Cetrotide tonight. Oddly they only gave me enough Menopur to last till Wednesday which seems too soon to me but I'm going to mention it at the scan today.

Oh so we are at the same point then! I’m on a short antagonist protocol. I also have so many questions for them at the scan today 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope your scan goes well! Xxx

It can also be because the strogens are increasing. Usually the egg white cervical mucus is a result of an increase of estrogens (that is why women with PCOS and estrogen dominance, may have this, even if they have an annovulatory cycle). In a natural cycle, a couple days after the increase, the ovulation happens. In an IVF cycle, you might ovulate before time, but the egg white discharge doesn't mean you are ovulating, but that because you are growing many follicles (ivf stimulates you to grow more eggs than usual... so you end up with more hormones as usual), your estrogen is increasing more than in a natural cycle, and so the discharge happens.

They gave me the first injection to prevent ovulation today and I feel much better now! 😅 thank you! Xx

I know how you feel :) it is a relief. For me they took longer to give me the injection to prevent it, and I was all worried. It was a relief when they did :)
