I am new to this. So thank you in advance. My husband and I are currently going through our first round of IVF for unexplained infertility. I had my egg collection yesterday where they managed to get 5 eggs. But got the phone call today to say that only 1 has fertilised (I know one is amazing news). They want to do a day 3 transfer. I am so scared and do not know how to feel, I can’t help but think we don’t have a good chance of it working as we aren’t doing a day 5 transfer.
I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance, I dunno. I wish someone could tell me how to feel.
Hi Hidden I am in a very similar position to you and it's really tough. I got my phone call yesterday and have my 3 day transfer tomorrow morning (all being well overnight). I am the same as you in that i don't know if this is good or bad news. Everyone i know got at least 5 in the freezer. At least we have something though, right? I guess it's just disappointing we won't have anything for the freezer. Are you able to get another round or will you have to pay too? I'm going to have to pay for my next one if i am unsuccessful which is scary as i don't know how i am going to do it.
Apparently only 25% of IVF cycles actually end up with frozen embryos, if it makes you feel better! It does feel sometimes like absolutely everyone has something for the freezer, but it's not true. For me, I've done three cycles, twice we've ended up with one embryo to transfer and the other time we ended up with nothing to transfer, never had anything to freeze xx
Hi IVF. Just remember that when I first started out in the fertility field we only did Day 3 transfers, as we didn't have the expertise to grow the embryos to Day 5. We still had many successes, and as I always say your little one will be back inside you where he/she belongs. Thinking of you. Diane
This whole IVF thing is so hard, we never know how to feel and you're always waiting endlessly to see what happens - one thing you can hang on to is that if this embryo is going to work, it'll work whether you transfer it on day 3 or on day 5. About half of embryos stop growing between day 3 and day 5 which is why if you have plenty, they'll go to day 5 to see which are the strongest - but with one, it does make sense to put it back on day 3 unless you particularly want to wait for day 5 to see if it's still going then. Some people think they do better in your uterus than in the lab. Wishing you lots of luck xx
Don't feel bad because you have only one embryo to transfer. I did 3 cycles with nothing to freeze, only on the 4th cycle we managed to have 4 blastocysts. We need unfortunately 2-3 cycle to understand what is working for us. I had 2 transfers on day 2, unfortunately both ended in a chemical pregnancy but there are lots of women who got pregnant with day 3 embryos. Don't lose your hopes yet, we only need one. Good luck 🤞♥️🤗
Hey, I also only had 1 viable embryo to transfer so had a day 3 transfer. I felt completely the same as you, scared and worried that our chances of success were slim to none. But I’m now pregnant with twins! So please do not lose hope, miracles do happen and sometimes you get more than you could ever wish for! Sending you lots of love and good wishes xx
Hi. Just pray this works for you. There is nothing wrong with day 3 embryo transfer. I had mine transfered on day 3 and I'm currently pregnant with it. It takes just one. Wish you all the best. x
Hey Hidden in the same boat. This is out first go for ivf. We are doing a fresh transfer. Retrieval day we were able to get 8 eggs only 6 matured 3 fertilized but on transfer day we were told one made it to blast <3 so far I’m staying positive I don’t think I’ve prayed this much since Sunday school. But we are currently 3 days away from our blood beta test. I will be praying for you.
