First Round of IVF

I’m day 7 of my first round of IVF. I went for an ultrasound today and had 4 follicles, all on the left. I had a cyst removed from the right ovary just over a year ago and have had 6 unsuccessful IUIs since then. I think I was expecting more than 4 follicles and felt quite down afterwards. Hubby keeps reminding me that we only need one good egg! I know everyone is different but how many follicles should I be expecting? I’m on 150 gonal-f and started cetrotide today. I don’t want to set myself up for disappointment again so any guidance would be great.

Thanks, it’s a whole new world and hard to know what to expect. The follicles were 14, 12, 11 and 9. Have another ultrasound on Sunday so maybe there will be more then!

Sweetheart no one is normal...and no one cycle is the same... just get them eggs out of those follicles. Play it day by day, otherwise you will go crazy xxx

You’re right, I’m usually so level headed and this is the only thing that drives me nuts! Another day, another injection and we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the support xxx

Hello, My AMH count is low. we are trying from 2 and half yrs. no luck so far. We went for a scan and got 3 follicles. Nurse told us to be realistic as its just 3. She said sometime the follicle has no egg inside them. And that’s why she kept asking to be realistic. She also said we might get 3 eggs out of 3 follicles but that we will come to know only on the egg collection day.

We told her that we will try every option before giving up.

I am just sharing my experience and not discouraging you.

After a lengthy discussion when I asked her about the DHEA supplement, she was a bit reluctant to talk about and then said that its upto me whether to take it or not.

Your hubby is correct, its only one egg, that is needed. Don’t give up and be positive.

You never know.

You’re right, it’s good to be realistic but hard not to be optimistic too! I hope things work out for you soon. Fingers crossed for good eggs all round.

Hey, you still have time for more follicles to grow, I had more each time I was scanned - they did up my dosage slightly to give me more of a chance as I’m only doing one cycle. Your follicle sizes are good sizes too so even if it stays at 4 follicles they’re still making good progress!

Good luck to you 😘

Thanks so much, that’s what I’m hoping for, a few more next scan. All the best for your cycle, hope it works out xxx

Hello. I had 3 follicles, 2 eggs collected, 2 fertilised, 2 transferred and now 11 weeks pregnant from our first round of IVF. I was on 150 bemfola. It is quality over quantity. Fingers crossed for you lovely 🤞🏻Xx

Congrats, that’s great, so happy for you 😁 Were you asvised to transfer both or did you make the choice? We’ve been told we can transfer one or two but aren’t sure what’s best. They keep talking about the risk of multiples but it also seems risky to put all hope in one egg!

They advised us to transfer both. I was more than comfortable with the prospect of twins so it wasn’t a decision for us. They were two pretty good quality embryos so I was expecting them both to stick but when we went for our viability scan our little Singleton was confirmed!

Aww, it must have been an amazing moment at the scan. My hubby beams from ear to ear whenever they mention twins but I’m slightly more cautious. I’ll see how many eggs we get and decide from there 😊

Hi don’t worry too much about numbers . My first round I had 16 which resulted in two blasts but it ended unsuccessfully. Second round I got 7 just from one side - the other side was empty for some reason even though it wasn’t on the scan . Anyway it resulted in 3 good blasts one being my son . Honestly try not to worry - your husband is right you only need one . Sometimes less is more x x

Thanks for sharing your positive story, definitely gives me more hope 😊 Going to relax and see what happens xxx

Hello dear. I didn't want to tell you anything bad or good but have to say that you have low chances. Your body is exhausted by medication and stimulations so don't give yourself false hope. But in any case, you should believe in a good outcome as miracles happen! Faith sometimes makes wonders! I knew about my health issues and even if I could be pregnant there would be a very small chance to carry a baby. Though I got my bfp I was ready that I can have a miscarriage. I wanted to try, just to know that I did everything that I could. I had an mc on the 7th week and it was not so hard to go through this as I really was ready for that.

But, please, don't lose your hope!

Baby dust!

Sorry to hear of your loss, I hope your next step has a better outcome. You’re right, staying realistic is a good way to cope, but I’m also hoping for the best-a bit of faith and positivity can do wonders xxx

I understand your concerns but everyone is so so different (really very annoying I know!) I overheard that a lady at the clinic on Wednesday when I had egg collection got 39 eggs retrieved!! I’ve never even heard of that being possible. It made my egg collection seem very low! However I was told that if I had had over 20 eggs, I may well have had to have been hospitalised for OHSS. Everyone is so individual.Try and take every day at a time and fingers crossed for Sunday. X

I will advise you to stay positive and also prepare for the negative side too. My testimony, my first and last Ivf for now, I was stimulated on 300iu of Fostimon, had just only total of 4 follicles, two on each ovary with two 25mm Endometrioma on the right ovary on day 7 scan. Medication was increased to 450 iu to get them grow up to normal size of egg collection. I was advised to cancel but my husband and I decided to go head since my AMH was almost not d existing 0.4 ng/ml. Though I was 33years then. 4 eggs was collected, 4 microinjected 4 fertilized, and 3 made it to day 5. Grades: 5BB, 5BA and a 2. The two good grades were transferred with positive outcome. That resulted in the birth of my cherubs boy and girl. Grade 2 remaining embryo did not expand further for crypreservation.

So happy to hear things worked out for you and I definitely take your advice on board. Realistically hopeful with preparation for the worst-what a balance!

Update: had 11 follicles this morning so felt like things are actually working. 2 more days of meds before blood/ultrasound/pre-op and then they’ll decide when to do the retrieval. Thanks for all the support 😊
