Starting Ivf Cycle - With Cyst In Ovary

Hi ,

I have been to a clinic yesterday to start tests , so me and my partner can start a cycle of IVF / ICSI .

I had a 3D scan done yesterday along side a consultation, and whilst doing my scan they revealed i have a cyst in my left ovary measuring 6cm x 5cm . Basically covering my whole left ovary .

They was able to see 3 follicles in my left ovary , behind the cyst.

Scan revealed 4 follicles in right ovary .

The consultant told me I can be booked in for IVF in 2/3 months . And that they can do a egg retrieval from just 1 ovary . My right ovary , which only showed 4 follicles at the time.

As if they enter the other ovary with the cyst , there is a chance of infection and turning the cyst into a abscess. And causing further trouble .

I am hoping the cyst goes down , as I have had severely scans previously which there has been a cyst but smaller .

But what I would like to know is there any one else who has came across this problem in the past ?

Anyone’s opinion on what they would do ?

As this is my first cycle . I would just like to hear what anyone else thinks I should do in regards do I pay for the cycle and book it in . Or should I wait a bit to see if it goes down .

Will the medication increase the size of cyst ? Does anyone have any experience of this ?

I am 38 , nearly 39 . And my AMH is 6.69 .

Will be grateful to hear your thoughts on this xx

Cysts can definitely go down, down regulation can help with that. I had one on both ovaries when I started and it meant I had to down regulate for longer than expected and do a second course of norethisterone but we got there in the end! X

Hi Treacle. Your clinic wouldn't be going ahead if they were particularly worried about the cyst, so fingers crossed it won't be a problem. Should it be a problem, then they would most likely drain it before trying again. If you are on a long protocol, then there is a chance it will go down, fingers crossed. Diane

That happen to me has well where there was also a cyst on my left ovary. The doctor stated that cyst normal go down on its own or i could do a surgery to drain it. I opt for the surgery and dry it because i didn't want to do the waiting game. I continue with my medication and i end up retrieving 18 eggs 9 from both side. So i think you will be fine good luck.
