HELP! 12mm cyst - should I cancel my medicated FET cycle?

I was hoping as some of you seem to be great sources of knowledge about this process you'd be able to help me a little?

I have started my FET cycle (day 2 of meds/ CD3) but went in for a scan today and they found a follicle on my left ovary it's small at 12mm and they think it's just left over from the fresh cycle. They took bloods to find out if it's a functional cyst (releasing hormones). They said I can continue on and then if it continues to grow they will give me a trigger shot to get it to rupture and treat it like a egg bearing follicle, rest of the cycle would go as planned. But they said if it starts to behave erratically then they may advise we abandon the cycle. Bloods won't be back until tomorrow so I'm in limbo for another day.

I'm not sure what's best - she said if we don't feel comfortable we can cancel now and try again next month. Their recommendation is to keep going as it will likely be fine. I'd hate to have to cancel the cycle and lose money if we keep going, if I cancel now we just postpone. I'm hoping they call me tomorrow and confirm that my oestrogen is low so it isn't functional and we can ignore it. I’m getting mixed results online some say it negatively impacts preg rates and others say they would continue if it’s a “simple/functional cyst”.

I feel like I have heard ladies say that they have had cycles cancelled due to functional cysts so I'm a little confused as to why they are ok with me continuing?

Does a cyst, functioning or not, negatively affect my chances of implantation? I guess what happens if they try and trigger it but it doesn't rupture or something! It can't be impossible as it didn't rupture last time or this cycle gone when I ovulated.

Has anyone had an experience like this before with a cyst? Do the meds from my medicated FET mean the cyst might grow larger.

I also don't really want to delay if I don't have to but don't want to mess up our chances either! Nothing about this process is plain and simple!

Thanks in advance any one who can help or shed any light on what might be going on! 😊

Hi,

My cycles have been cancelled in the past for those types of cysts.

I have one cycle, on the right, next one on the left and both times cancelled. Then I went for one month of pills and the next one. I didn’t have any cyst and they did the collection.

Now I am waiting for the transfer but probably in my case they would cancelled it

Thanks for responding! So was your fresh cycle cancelled? Mine is a FET and I can find info online for fresh cycles that suggest best option is to cancel as it affects egg quantity and quality but for frozen as we aren’t collecting eggs it is less clear the impact.

Hi lovely, I had an FET cancelled due to a functional cyst. They said it wasn’t a good plan to continue as it would continue to grow with the meds. So I was on norethisterone for 10 days then started prep again as soon as I bled after that. It had gone by then. So I think about a 3 week delay xx

Thank you! Yes this is the typical experience I have heard off. I think I’m leaning towards delaying it because I want to give my embryo the best shot. I don’t want to do it and have a negative result and forever wonder if it was because of the cyst.

So strange they said they would give me a HCG trigger shot if it did grow with the meds. So many variables and unknowns.

Do you remember the size of your cyst? My research suggests over 20mm so mine is still quite small and she did keep saying that as well as if the size made a difference.

I actually don’t think I knew 🤷🏼‍♀️ But they just said it’s better to have everything perfect and not risk it. It’s a tough call but for me delaying although frustrating seemed like the best plan. Good luck xxx

Thanks for responding. Where were you in your cycle when they found it? Did they tell you why it needed to be cancelled? Had you already started on meds? I am wondering now if I stop what will the meds I’ve taken do for my next cycle.

I was on day 5 and haven’t started my medicine as I was too late for my scan my scan was supposed to be on day 2 or 3 and I did the scan on day 5 because my period came on Friday when I called the clinic on Saturday they were closed so called them back on Monday then I was told to come in for scan on Tuesday which was day5 that is when they saw it and after the blood test they had to cancel it and said I should wait till my next period I have now started taking progynova 2mg 3 times a day for 10 days then back for another scan

Oh I see that somewhat makes sense as I guess by day 5 it might have been recruited by your body as an egg bearing follicle if you hadn’t started meds. Did they scan you again to make sure the cyst was gone before starting this time around then? I assume it was gone?

Best of luck on your cycle!

Hi recently had a fet with 6cm ovary cyst and they said it was up to me if wanted to go ahead. I took the chance and got a bfp currently 14+5. I did have to take the contraception pill for two month and had checks just to make sure it hadn’t grown but so far everything good xx

The clinic updated me and it is a follicle releasing hormones, my body has recruits a dominant follicle early so they expect it will grow as a normal follicle and release an egg. They will monitor my ovulation and trigger me if necessary or line things up with my natural ovulation.

It may stop growing since I’ve started the progynova as that is to suppress true ovaries. I’m having a scan sooner to keep an eye on the growth of it. If it doesn’t grow then it is fine and can be ignored.

So I will need to track with OPKs to make sure I don’t ovulate naturally and miss it and hope my lining gets thick enough although that hasn’t been a problem so far so fingers crossed it doesn’t become one this cycle 🤞🏽
