FET go ahead after scan - and Bicornuate/ heart shaped uterus??

Hi lovelies

Just a little update. I went for my second monitoring scan (d16) and my womb lining has grown a little from d13 (6.5mm). So I've hit 7.11mm and passed the minimum 7mm that my consultant set for me. Woo hoo, so FET is set for next Thursday 8th July

Weirdly whilst I was being scanned, the nurse pointed out that I had a bicornuate or heart shaped uterus! Has anyone had experience of this?

I'm surprised that after all the years of trying to conceive and who know how many scans, that noone has ever mentioned this before. My cousin had a baby last year and when she fell pregnant apparently there was concern as she had two compartments to her womb. I didnt pay any attention at the time but it sounds like a bicornuate uterus - which is genetic and only affect 3% of women apparently.

My cousin did carry to full term. But Dr Google has some scary articles on high risk pregnancies as a result. Given Im 42 and this is IVF, (along with NK and immune issues), additional high risk factors are not what I need hahaha!

Has anyone had experience of IVF and bicornuate uterus?

xx

Hi, yes I have. I had a septate/biconuate uterus and had the septum removed before having IVF. I had to have loads more scans for things like incompetent cervix and ended up having breech presentation/unstable lie at the end and two ECVs (which didn’t work). But it all sounds worse than it was in reality and most women with a bicornuate uterus don’t even know they have it as it doesn’t cause any problems. I’d just make sure you mention it to consultants etc. so they can keep a closer eye on you.

Good luck with your FET 🙂. I’m having one in August xx

Thank you Vic. In some ways it's good to know so can keep an eye on it. Hopefully it won't impact this FET but if it doesn't work might be something to consider having looked at before I try again.

Good luck for August xx
