So I have my first consultation coming up with a Private clinic in London. I have my original test results from NHS and have a further follicle count and prior AMH blood test to be done with the private clinic, as part of that first consultation.
I’m currently preparing my cycle tracking info, test results (mine and DH’s) and questions that I would like to ask. I am keen to get the best out of the appointment - and when I had the NHS consultation, I was so upset and shocked that I didn’t ask anything and came away completely in the dark about what it all meant.
So I was wondering if there was anything that you wish you had found out about during your first consultation - or specific questions that you think I should ask? Such as DHEA, success with my stats etc.
Everyone on here is always so helpful - Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I was exactly the same but I think you have covered the main bases.
I would ask them on their view as to the supplements which you should take and the one thing that I didn’t know was all the tests they need you to do. Some need to be done at a specific point like fsh so I would make sure they have or accept the results which you already have and find out what else you need to do. That way you are ready to start at the time you want to.
Really good point about the tests and supplements - I will add those questions. You’re right they might suggest other tests - I didn’t even think of that!
Thank you lovely and good luck with your journey x 🌺
Thank you my love! I am actually excited - don’t know if that’s normal, or if I should be more nervous/ scared. Not really thinking about it not working, although I know that’s the likelihood! Thanks again and best wishes x 🌺
I actually love the 2WW with IVF! At that point you've jumped all the hurdles and there is a decent chance (not a flipping 5% or 10% or whatever rubbish odds we get for cycles as a whole!) that you'll end up with the result you dream of. I love being PUPO 💚 Best of luck xx
Hi LuluLJ, I agree with the others you seem well organised and prepared. As pay of my research into IVF, I came across this lady that calls herself the Egg Whisperer on YouTube. She has a video on questions to ask at your first IVF appointment.
You star - Thank you so much this is great. I will grab a pad and pen this afternoon and give this a watch. Great suggestion on the question - I like that and will use it.
It might be worth asking whether they would recommend natural modified IVF, which is sometimes a better route to go with low AMH. Also whether they are recommending fresh or frozen transfers and why, and whether that would be Day 3 transfers or wait until Day 5 and transfer blastocysts. This was all stuff I didn’t really figure out until later IVF cycles and wished I had understood a bit more earlier on. Wishing you so much luck for your journey Lulu xx
Good shout about Fresh Vs Frozen - I hadn’t given that any thought. I’ve heard that frozen is often best with low amh - and because I may need egg banking. But didn’t consider that I might be able to go in straight away with a transfer without freezing.
I will ask about the 3 Vs. 5 day transfer and Mild, Naturally modified Vs other IVF - I know they have lots of IVF options (which was one of the key points for us), but I don’t know what they work on in terms of standard practice and 3 day Vs. 5 day transfers.
I saw an improvement in my AMH after taking impryl. I don't know if this is what did it as I was also taking omega 3 & coq10 along with a prenatal vit. It's expensive though x
Oh really…?!, that’s great! So I wonder if the quality improved and so the AMH hormone produced by the eggs was greater. This is what I need to focus on I think. I will have a look for Impryl as well then as I’ve not tried that. I’m willing to spend all of my saving’s on this right now and will just write off any costs as part of the fertility pot lol!!!
Maybe, yes. I have no idea. The first round I got 7 embryos but had 3 miscarriages. On the round I used impryl, we got one 5 day blast & am now 34 weeks. Better quality but not quantity. I would use impryl again. Best of luck to you too x
Sorry to hear about your MCs hun. So pleased that they worked it out and helped you get the dream - 34 weeks… massive congratulations!!! I’ll enquire about Impryl definitely! Wishing you all the best for your bubbs and motherhood x 🌺
Thanks for responding. I haven’t heard of that so will have a look into it and ask about it. I am a little worried about being a poor responder, but won’t know till we start I guess!!
I have a scan tomorrow to see if the 5mg of Letrozole is doing anything, so will possibly be able to eliminate that, or beef up the meds!
Don’t worry, everyone is totally unique. I have a low amh but got good results. Took DHEA and all the known supplements plus Zomacton for egg growth. Good luck to you, it’s such a minefield but I’m sure your consultant will find the right treatment for you x x x
That’s really a relief to hear. The NHS wrote me off and left me thinking there was no chance and no point in trying - so I love hearing stories about people having those results! Thank you for the tips Elle xx 🌺
I had a low amh and had 2 normal cycles. Only difference was first one was goal f and the other menopure. They will most likley stick you on a higher dose of either med they prescribe. If they give you a choice, menopure is cheaper, produced less eggs but better quality than I had with gonal (more mature). I was told menopure was the better option for for this reason by the doctor at consultation. First time I had more follicles but only 5 eggs were collected (but only 2 were mature -1 made it) seconds time 5 eggs 1 immature 4 matures (2 good quality fertilised, 1 fertilised and was just a bit slower than the others, and one jus stopped growing). They say impryl is good for the males and recomended my partner taken this. When researched its also good for egg quality. But only he took it as was expensive to. They will also make with health and diet recommendations. I was told up protein, reduce carbs, excersise buy not to excess, cut down read meat, eat fish but no more than twice a week, take omega 3, folic acid and a prenatal supplement, pro and prebiotic.
Great advice - thank you so much for responding. Ive seen a few people mention Menopur and quality of eggs, so I would go with that too, if offered (Vs. Other meds). I’m a bit pants with exercise - so I need to get back to walking and cycling again 😖. I’ll ask them about diet and supplements then as well.Thank you hun. Best wishes x 🌺
If you have the funds to do so I would go private. I'm on the NHS waiting list but as I too have low AMH I've decided to go private.. I've heard of some people waiting over a year!
On a side note, I really recommend these supplements:
Impryl, Dhea, Ubiquinol, Omega 3, inositol, vitamin d3 and a prenatal vitamin
I was diagnosed with low AMH for my age (27) which was 4.7pmol/l and after 3 months of taking the supplements I mentioned.. it has gone up to 9.4pmol/)
Which I was told was impossible! I'm proof that it isn't!
Also read the book called it starts with the egg. I done everything the book says I truly believe this is what helped improve my AMH levels.
I wish you all the best x

Hi Lilly,
Thank you for writing back.
Wow that increase is amazing!! Did your follicle count go up as well so you know?
I’ve just bought that book, but haven’t yet started reading it - although I will now!
Thank you for the tips on supplements, they must work because everyone talks about the same groups, so will have a look at Impryl and the others that you mentioned. I will be starting with the private clinic this month, as NHS won’t fund me due to AMH level 😢 . I’m excited to get started and really hoping that it happens naturally before we start anything - but I know that’s unlikely as NHS told me it will probably never happen.
Thank you again and good luck with your journey! X 🌺
May I please ask what is acceptable AMH results for NHS funding for IVF?
I have been referred to Reproductive Medicine Clinic and Assited conception unit at Guy's Hospital London. Doing now our test to be eligible for NHS funding. My AMH is 3.9. I wonder if it's low for NHS funding?
