Private AMH 1.7 NHS AMH one month later 6.9!

Hi i just received my AMH results from NHS blood test taken a month after i had my private clinic AMH done. The private (1st) result was 1.7 and the NHS a month later was 6.9! Of course i'm pleased even though i think this is still low for my age (38). How can they be so different though? I thought it was a stable level unlikely to change much. Should i be sceptical about private clinics? Has this ever happened anyone else? Has anyone else had AMH of around 7 and in late 30's as i'd be interested to hear their ivf egg numbers and success rates.

Hi ya my friend had an amh of 6, she just give birth to a baby girl last week. She didn't get a great number of eggs but she had her 1 remaining wee embie transferred on day 2 as it was the only one she had and there was no point waiting to day 3 or 5. It has resulted in her baby girl. Try not to get too hung up on numbers, it's quality not quantity 😁

Aw thanks for that positive story. Lucky girl! Was it her first round?

No unfort it was her 4th round but everyone body is different x

I presume both results were in the same units pmol/L. The two results are quite different. Best wishes for your TTC.

My amh was 10 when first tested and the dropped to 6 about 18 months later. We’ve had three cycles and had between 6-8 eggs collected each time. We had 5 fertilise last time. Sadly the quality wasn’t there and none made past day three. I think amh is only one side of it and quality is also important - if you only get one and it’s perfect, that’s all you need. I wouldn’t get hung up on the number as it could mean nothing if you get good eggs. Good luck xxx

Thanks for your reply and sorry to hear your struggles. Yes here's hoping for good quality too. I'm really hoping they are and taking supplements but 38 and a lifetime of smoking/drinking so just have to hope for the best.x

My amh was 6.4. I got 5 eggs, 3 fertilised. All made it to day 5 and have one in the freezer. We are just waiting to see if number 3 makes it to freezing too.x

I've had 4 amh blood tests all in the space of around 6 months. 3.0 (nhs), 2.3 (nhs), 7.5 (private), 6.2 (nhs). I asked about the differing results and especially as amh is not supposed to rise but I think I was fobbed off with the explanation that all labs undertaking the the results have different procedures and environments but they didn't really know why it happens. My first 2 nhs blood tests stopped me from being eligible for nhs funded cycled and I went for private treatment which I responded to really well and so decided to have a private blood test. Luckily I did as I went back to the nhs and after going through another referral I was then eligible for 2 nhs cycles. I personally don't think it's a blood test that should be relied on as heavy as it is as 3 of my blood tests were done in the same nhs lab. Just goes to show their procedures are not consistent xx

Hi AnnieAnnie. Thanks for your reply. Thats crazy and especially so when you were initially discounted from ivf on the basis of AMH. Sorry to hear your story. Lots of frustrating things happening for you when i went back and read your profile. Hope you are well and good luck with getting your baby when you're ready to try again.x

Just to say some things can affect the result such as vitamin D deficiency. It is really annoying that so much depends on that one number and then it varies like that. 6.9 is decent xx

Hi yes crazy so much deoends on it and happy with my little lift today even though it probably doesnt mean much and praying for quality at my age ober quantity. Thanks for the tip...started taking d3 recently but not quite sure what it does...just read it somewhere and bought it with a load of other expensive vits rumoured to help fertility lol...we really are a target market primed and ready to be totally exploited. Big congratulations on your lovely boy (just read your profile) sorry to hear about your struggles since and hoping you get a little sibling soon.x

I had mine taken at age 36 and at age 38 and both times it was 2 something. Neither of the Docs I was with at the time were concerned although it seems very low compared to numbers I see on here so I wonder if the same units are being used (I don't live in the UK). Anyway, did IVF, ended up with 9 mature eggs, 5 developed into blasts and just had my 12 week scan of the one that stuck from the first transfer. I'm 39 now.

As everyone says, it's a question of quality over quantity. Are you taking any supplements?

Thanks for that. Yes there are 2 different measurements and if so think your 2 is the equiv or about 15 to 18 in the pmol measurements i've got. As evertone says though its the quality and not quantity thats gonna be the real stumbling block and wont kniw that till i try i guess. Yes taking dhea 100mg, d3, coq10, omega 3 fish oil, paba and of course folic acid but apart from folic acid ive only been taking others since christmas and ivf to start mid/late feb so not sure theyll habe had time to have any impact. Had acupuncture since end of nov once a week. I gave up cigs in nov but still on nic tabs which im giving up (well keep telling myself in next day or two. So glad you've finally had such a success. Congrats. Always uplifting to hear the positive outcomes.

Hey there I am 38 and my AMH is lower for my age too... I will dig out the numbers for you. I didn’t think it increases because we are born with all the eggs we have, the way it was explained to me and there isn’t anything we can do make more egg although we can try a few things to ensure the quality is good. I think that’s the difference with men and woman where sperms are manufactured as they go and replenished accordingly. Let me dig my results out. I had mine done at a private clinic.

Hello! No I didn’t. My blood test is tomorrow I figure I can hold off one more day. I suspect it’s a BFN since there is nothing my body did to indicate otherwise. But let’s see. What I did do in the wait aside from go crazy. I shopped... not fir myself but my house. Great stress reliever 👍 how about you

Aw 10 outta ten to you for willpower. I'm waiting on my period (due tuesday coming) before having my consent appointment on thursday. I tested 2 days ago in the off chance we could have that miracle natural conception people tell you about before ivf. I have no idea how i'll ever cope should i get to an ivf 2ww. Signals are over rated. Many dont get any symptoms. Its so ridiculously early on you're hardly likely to. No matter what the result you'll be okay. Wishing you luck strong lady.x

Thank you! We have no choice but to be ok. I have my fingers crossed for you (and all the ladies on here). Text me whenever you have the urge to test early. I will distract you.

I was 37 when i had mine. I only have one ovary. They were 7 and 8.8.

There are two labs in the UK and apparently the results can vary between them.

First icsi round 5 eggs, 3 mature and all went to blast, top grade embie now my daughter and a medium quality in the freezer about to be thawed. Unfortunately the last one was too small to freeze.

Quality over quantity in the ivf game x

Aw thanks. Thats really positive. Congratulations on your daughter and good luck with the thawing one.x
