6 month limit for ovulation induction?

Hello,

I'm due to start ovulation induction (Clomid or Letrozol) soon and I know they can only be taken for a maximum of 6 months due to the associated risks. Getting ahead of myself here I know! But I was wondering if this is a maximum of 6 months in your lifetime i.e. if it takes 5 months of taking tablets to fall pregnant, you can only have 1 child via this route? I feel like I can't ask my gynecologist this or he'll laugh at me as I'm a control freak and thinking so far ahead - I haven't even started any medication yet and would do anything for a single child :D

If anyone knows / has taken ovulation medication for more children it'd be helpful to know and ease my mind :)

Thanks!

I've known people take it for longer than 6 months anyway. It's recommendation but not a hard and fast rule. You can also take a break (if you get pregnant for example) and then take it again a couple of years later! No question is silly though! X

Hi CoralCats. It is 6 cycles per year, if done together. best to leave 6-12 months in between "batches" Good luck! Diane

May I ask what dosage does this recommendation refer to, and who's made it? I've been on medicated natural cycles for 12 months now, taking 4 Letrozole pills on day 3 of my cycle for the first 9 months, then 4 tablets on day 3 and 4 tablets on day 4, and since this current 12th cycle I've been instructed to take 5 pills on day 3 and 5 pills on day 4. My fertility doctor never told me about any risks that could be associated with this treatment. Now what I'm reading here makes me feel that I've not been given the chance to provide informed consent. I'd be immensely grateful for any pointers to where I can learn more about this, and challenge my clinic if necessary.
