I had egg collection today, the last one I had I didn’t experience any after pain. Today’s procedure I am in pain, I can hardly walk, it feels like a very bad case of irritable bowl syndrome, I just want to keep curling up, but it hurts. I’ve taken paracetamol and I don’t think I’m at risk of OHSS as I only had a few follicles , but just wondered if it’s normal ? X

I'm so sorry you're having pain. I once had terrible pain after egg collection and I ended up in A and E. Do you have IBS? I think I had an IBS attack with constipation which gave me so much pain. When I was in hospital my ivf consultant came round and said it's quite normal to get problems with your bowels. Also the meds can give you constipation. Perhaps you can call your clinic for advice if it gets worse. I hope you can rest, distract yourself and relax and feel better soon. Xxx
Thanks hun, I’m going to see how I am tomorrow; If no better; I will give them a call. I managed to go to toilet just now (number 2) sorry for info. I’m hoping that will ease the pain. How long was you in pain for? Did they give you anything in a&e? I used to have IBS but it seemed to get better, but this has probably irritated it.
Ps ladies - if you are reading Thai and due for egg collection, please don’t be scared, my last one was pain free, usually recovery is fine, I’m just unlucky. I was bloated before I started from the long protocol so that prob haven’t helped either x
I've had 4 collections and only one has been painful. It was a case of IBS and egg collection coinciding. It was my best cycles though and I ended up with 5 frozen embryos. In the hospital they gave me morphine and lots of paracetamol. In the morning the pain had subsided and I just remained really really bloated. I had some lactulose which did the trick but later I heard that prune juice also helps. I also drank lots of luke warm water.
I think it's good we talk about this and you shouldn't worry about giving details. For women who have IBS or often suffer from constipation it's useful to have something in the house when needed. But as you say- usually egg collections go well.
Thank you, this is really useful, I was panicking but I don’t want to be that person who rings the nurse for silly things if it’s normal lol
But i guess if you suffer from IBS and have egg collection , pain discomfort is to be expected , anyone reading this and suffer with IBS might be best to let your consultant know as they could prob prescribe something to help .
I’m just waiting today to hear if any of the 3 eggs they collected have fertilised, I hope I get at least 1 embryo for transfer or this pain will be for nothing.
I really hope you get good news. I also had my egg collection yesterday. Luckily this time the pain was ok although I did drink a bit too much prune juice 😐. I still have 3 frozen embryos in the Uk from my awful painful round but now I live in the Netherlands and at the moment it's impossible to get back. Good luck!
