I hope this post brings hope to others as other posts like this did for me at the time of my diagnosis.
My husband and I had been actively trying to conceive from the age of 29 although when I met him at 25 we had decided not to use any contraception. I come from a very fertile family and so was expected to fall pregnant quickly. By the time I reached 31 I was struggling to understand why we hadn't fallen pregnant and was getting fed up of being asked by all my family and friends if we were trying for a baby yet.
A visit to the GP to start the ball rolling looking into our fertility followed by a routine blood test highlighted I had a high FSH level and led us to being referred to a clinic in wrightington who confirmed that I had a low ovarian reserve with AMH of 6.6 and that IVF was the best way forward. My mental health was in a really bad state at this point. Enclosed in the IVF information pack I found a recommendation regarding this fertility forum on health unlocked. I am so glad I found it as it really helped me cope mentally to see that I was not on my own and that others were going through similar situations. The ability to chat freely and openly about my fertility issues and see successes gave me hope. I also enjoyed looking at what others had changed with their diet to help with egg quality, books to go read and talks of lucky fertility charms to have around the house and wear gave me hope.
Luckily for us our first fresh round of IVF gave us two embryos. One of which was transferred straight away at the age of 32 and the other we froze. The first embryo (day 5 top quality) stuck and gave us our little girl. We then transferred our last remaining embryo at the age of 35 and he was born last week. He was a day 6 grade 3bb and is perfect. It's my daughter's birthday next week and my son was due this week. Our embryo twins transferred around the similar time of year and birthdays close by.
I realise that we have been extremely lucky for both rounds of IVF to have worked. I wish everyone lots of baby dust and luck on your journey and hope my post can help you. I have put some information on my profile of some of the things I tried along my journey. Lots of love and virtual hugs to all you warriors out there. Keep going xxx
