Hi everyone I am writing this post and listening to meditation music. I guess I am in moment of my cycle where i am so emotional and i read few comments from other women whose IVF was not successful and it really brought tears..actually i cant stop now.. My story is I am with partner for 10yrs who has very low sperm count and never improved for some reason. He is 53. HE had another 10yrs relat. again no baby so we decided IVF . Last chance as I will be 45 soon and i read a lot that its impossible mission. I have no issues. Could you pls advice me DO i need PGS? And when they retrieve eggs and make embryos how many i put inside me and how many i choose to freeze? If i have one or 4 embryos why price is same like £3500 to freeze- London. Can i pay for one only -whatever i have left. If I have frozen embryo what do i pay for Second IVF.Do i pay ICSI again?

Hi

You have a lot of questions so best to go through it methodically

Once you have a clinic, they will have a consultation with you and your partner, go through a history with you and also do blood tests and sperm analysis

If your partner has a low sperm count it maybe they do IVF with ICSI, so you would pay the basic rate IVF package and the cost of your ICSI would be put on top (so at my clinic IVF is £5000 , ICSI is an extra £1350 on top of that cost)

If everything is okay to proceed then you will be given your protocol and drugs that you need, the medication will normally be at an extra cost.

You then go in for egg collection, they will tell you on day 1 how many were collected and how many were mature. The following day you get a call to say how many fertilised.

If you get passed the stage the clinic normally calls at intervals day day 2 and day 4 for example, if you have anything that has made it to the blastocyst stage they will, all being well call you in for a fresh transfer.

By that stage you may or may not have anything to freeze.

Unfortunately due to your age your egg quality goes down - I’m 41 and had my 2 embryos PGTA tested from our second round before they were frozen, they were chromosomally abnormal so went in the bin, the one from that round they put back failed so no doubt that was also abnormal.

The costs you are quoted by a clinic to freeze embryos or transfer frozen embryos that have been thawed, do not go on how many you have or transfer it’s one cost that they quote

So the 2 abnormal embryos that went in the bin - they were only frozen two weeks before being binned I still had to pay the yearly storage fee of £940 - because they had been frozen.

If either of you have any further issues they find, you will be recommended as to the best course of action at the time

Also due to your age they may only transfer 1 embryo 2 at a absolute push

Thank you so much for your help. I definitely am not prepared for the final price. 1. Do i need AMH and AFC or just go ahead as I am already too late?

2. We need ICSI (semen came very low count0-10mil,,, and low motility 14%) Mine were all fine

3.Protocol ready medicine comes 500-2000£ Where do i buy cheapest? Are they based on my overall health condition : ovary reserve, fsh , uterus...I mean will it be cheaper if woman has no issues to correct?

4.Is it necessary Embryo Dummy?

5.I choose IVF natural freezing cycle with ICSI --£3600

6.Egg collection comes, ICSI, blastocyst, then embryo forms and they can test it (PGS or PGT is better? and is it really needed( i read about them but just wondered if we could save on that and pay toward second ivf

I am so haotik i apologize if ask so many questions but I have absolutely no one to ask . No family or friends who had that and my head is full mess. On top of this my period is late 4 days and i checked no pregnancy. I was spot on for a year 29 days.

Okay

1. You will need your AMH bloods done as they need to see what your ovarian reserve is like - I don’t know what AFC is.

2. Due to your partners age has he had a DNA fragmentation test done, because although he has a low speed count, what he has may have high fragmentation and they will need to be treated. My husband is 59 and had this extra test but didn’t need treatment.

3. Your meds are based on your results that the clinic have, the consultant assesses them then writes the medication chart, each medication has its own costs, you vacancies use the hospital pharmacy or go to companies like stork or fertility 2 u - I think even Asda sell fertility drugs with a prescription obviously

4. No you don’t have to have an embryo dummy, this is an add in which you need to pay extra for, you are better doing your research into the pros and cons of this.

5. If it’s a London clinic your at £3600 is an incredibly good rate

6. We did PGTA testing which is genetic testing, mainly because we didn’t want to waste £1600 with frozen embryo transfers if they were useless. I do not know much about PGS you will need to research that.

I would say you also need to prepare yourself for if you have nothing, there are lots of ladies on here who have done rounds and had nothing to transfer or freeze.

We had three rounds, our last being a donor egg round, and I’m now 13 weeks today - my eggs were just useless and I wasn’t going to keep paying out £10,000 - £12,000 a cycle to “get lucky” as our consultant put it
