I’m just looking for a bit of reassurance more than anything...
I’m currently on day 10 of buserelin, the side effects are taking its toll. I’ve had a headache for the last six days and barely slept for the last four, but more than anything my period is heavier than ever before.
My ‘normal’ periods last 25-30 days and typically are heavy. I started norethisterone on cd19 and my bleeding stopped within 24hrs which I thought was great, and started buserelin on cd21. Fast track eight days later, norethisterone is finished, my period has started and it is crippling me. I can’t leave the house. I’ve gone through an ultra tampon every hour for the last 24hrs. I was working three hours from home yesterday and had to stop 4 times during the drive back, each time sorting myself out in the back of my work van on the side of country lanes in mid Wales, there was just no time to get to a toilet.
Can anyone reassure me that a heavier period is normal and that this will subside soon? I’m exhausted. My hormones feel like they’ve gone crazy and I’ve lashed out at my partner this morning. My baseline scan is Wednesday and all being well stims will start the same day. I can’t face going back to work with the same drive on Monday, I’m a wreck 😞

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. You’re not alone I’m on day 13 of downreg (Synarel) and I’ve struggled this week - headaches and fatigue. My period was delayed and is much heavier than usual - I’m usually pretty light but this one is heavy and I feel rotten. I’ve added period pants to wearing tampons which helps. If you’re worried maybe call your clinic?
Baseline is Monday so I’m hanging on in there. Before starting the nurse told me that stims will help balance the down reg icky feeling so you’re not far off. And as for your partner, you’re dealing with the hormones and feeling awful, I’m afraid my view is their role is to suck it up when we do lash out. It’s the hormones, not you...x
Thank you for your reply, if that’s true about stims making this feeling go away then I’m praying I can start Wednesday like planned. I know some people who have had no side effects from down reg at all, I should’ve known I wouldn’t be that lucky! X
Hi, I was the same. My period started day 10 and I could barely move from my bed for 3 days, painful and ridiculously heavy . My clinic said it was “normal” and not to worry. Just had to power through those few days by reassuring myself mentally it was going to subside after a few days. Which it did after 3-4 days. It’s so horrible, but hang in there.
Re: headaches I drank minimum 2 litres of water a day . Hot water bottle on my tummy and back .
Re: husband, I told him to avoid me for the 3 days 🙈
Day 3 I was defo better, not in as much pain. It’s horrible, I completely empathise. But remember as horrible as it is, it will be ok again in a few days and it’s a “good” thing you have your period , closer to next step. Big hug x.
I had my baseline scan done yesterday and my lining is nice and thin despite still bleeding but I’ve got a 17 and 27mm cyst on each ovary so can’t start stims yet. I have to do another week of norethisterone and carry on buserelin, I’m so irritated!
