Hello ladies,
Just a random question, I am a bit confused with this.
Thank you!
Hello ladies,

Hi Idril, As far as I know there is a general negative correlation between them so with a high FSH this means the ovaries are working hard to produce follicles and since AMH is produced by follicles then this tends to be lower when there are fewer follicles.
However AMH is thought to be more reliable I think?
It is just an indicator of how the ovaries are likely to respond to the stims. So if FSH is higher and AMH is lower then generally more stim drugs are required. However there are lots of variations of protocols to try and get the right result for you.
Antral follicle Count AFC is probably more useful and helps the doctors predict your response to the drugs.
I got the best result from my cycle with the fewest eggs retrieved, so don’t get hung up on numbers (like I did), keep going and keep positive x
About 10-20% of the time, high FSH and low AMH do not show a correlation. I had high FSH (14.3) and average AMH for my age (1.8) and ended up with a successful IVF cycle, although I was told with that high of FSH I was super lucky. AMH is generally considered to be a more reliable indicator of ovarian reserve. I'd get your AMH tested and go from there. My experience is they put too much stock in FSH levels.
Thank you for sharing your story ! It seems that it's not that important as they tend to make me think ! Or maybe they don't really know ! On this forum it seems that they are a lot of stories that tell us the opposite to what the doctor says ! And then they will say you are lucky 🤷♀️ or unlucky... !
I think of all of my tests/indicators, FSH was the least helpful. I was 39 when I had my tests. My FSH was a bit high at 11.4mIU/mL (normal <8, and most papers looking at IVF require FSH to be within the normal range) but my AMH was a titch low at 7.6 pmol/L and AFC 11-14 on 2 different scans. I had 8 and 9 eggs collected in my 2 rounds and responded well to the meds. Various things I found written by fertility consultants say that now we have AMH, FSH is a bit rubbish in predicting anything in IVF! xx
Thank you so much for sharing your story ! That gives me a bit of hope, I thought that high fsh made it hard. It's so weird all of this process ! I feel like they don't really know much sometimes !
One problem with FSH is it fluctuates, so a one-off reading might not be very informative. Even AFC varies a bit. Even when you put it all together, your ovaries may not do what they are supposed to or may perform very nicely! These numbers are just a starting point. xx
