Low amh high fsh...feeling really low after first ivf failed & doctor doesn’t seem confident

Hello, I’m just looking for some advise...anyone that can relate and can share stories of what they found worked for them.

I’ve been told my amh is critically low for my age, 32...of 3.2..

After trying to conceive for 3 years and getting no where due to being classed as unexplained infertility, I had decided to get a second opinion...where they took my amh levels and after the result was offered IVF for the first time. I was on 250 gonal f and fyremadel...after my first scan, due to my follicles not responding too well, had my gonal f upped to 300. I then managed to get 8 follicles, 5 of them being between 18-20. They collected 5 healthy looking eggs. On day 1, they rang to say my progesterone was too high and they would be cancelling my fresh transfer, 2 eggs had fertilised and they would ring me on day 5 to book in for a frozen transfer. Sadly today, day 5...they rang me to say neither made it. They believe due to my low amh and high fsh that if I want to have ivf again, it’s likely the same thing will happen. I honestly believe I do have a chance but unsure what I can do to help really. It’s so rubbish feeling so helpless and not knowing how I can give myself a better chance, especially when the doctor seems so negative that it will ever work for me.

I take folic acid and vitamin d, had acupuncture, eat healthy and do yoga/ meditation

Xx

im so sorry to hear at 32 you have low AMH. i am 41 and have low AMH 2.56 and felt really low after finding out. i feel your pain. i was a poor responder to my IVF round and my doc said they will only try IVF once more. i was upset as im paying for it. he advised IUI which i failed last month. how high is your FSH? they never mentioned anything about mine but then again i never got as far as collecting any eggs. I've only really had 1 follicle at the correct size for iVF and IUI. i think my body is not responding as well despite me on vitamins, healthy diet and yoga/meditation with a lot of prayers. my next round of IVF i will push for even 1 egg collected and pray for the best.

@rumi40 it doesn’t make sense them making that decision when you’re paying them. I have heard so many miracles stories that it’s so disheartening when the doctors are so negative.

I’ve just asked for my fsh result because they haven’t told me officially, just it’s critically High.

I asked if a different drug protocol could help and he said probably not. Have you booked in for a second round?

I hope you get better news For your next round

I’m 36 but have been trying since I was 31, with low amh. At diagnosis when I was 32 my amh was between 2.2 and 2.8 and my fsh was 22. I was told i was probably game over due to the fsh. BUT, through ivf and supplements I have managed to get pregnant 5 times and most recently we got to a heartbeat but it was ectopic so sadly had to be removed.

I did so much with supplements like dhea, ubiquonol, inositol, pqq, wheatgrass etc and it’s only been when I’ve taken all of these that i conceived so there is a lot that you can do to help things. Please don’t be too disheartened but the first ivf attempt.

What was your fsh and what was your follicle count (AFC)? Xx

Oh Orla thank you so much for sharing..I’m so sorry to hear about your recent ectopic pregnancy.

The doctor never told me my fsh count and when I asked for the results they were a bit confused why I would want them and said they would need to send out a consent form first before I can have them. They haven’t done a follicle count either

Sending you lots of well wishes to you and pray you one day get the baby you deserve xx

I’ve just put a lengthy reply on the post below about supplements - and you can privately test your day 3 fsh for about £50 if your clinic won’t cooperate xx

Thank you so much Orla9298 for all the information, that’s really helpful. I’ve ordered a DHEA finger prick test and some better pre natal vitamins. Hoping they will release my fsh results as soon as I sign the consent form.

Dhea helps increase your testosterone and estrogen which can help the quality of developing eggs. Our sex hormones can be low with low amh and lead to poor egg quality. It’s worth reading the book It Starts with the Egg. It’s a lot to take on and a few of the things I think you can take less notice of, but the supplement part is useful.

Before taking dhea I would test your own DHEA-S levels and your testosterone levels to make sure that they are at the lower end of the ranges - you wouldn’t want to take it if you already have high levels. You can test both with a finger prick test from medichecks as it’s unlikely your clinic will do this for you.

Ubiquonol helps egg quality as a potent antioxidant and protects your cells from free-radicals I think. And PQQ helps enhance the positive effects of ubiquonol. Have a google of “pqq for egg quality” and you will find professional studies.

Fluctuating or high blood sugar also negatively affects egg quality so inositol helps control blood sugar and give steadier levels for egg quality.

And wheatgrass somehow is supposed to help reduce fsh which in turns really helps your response to ivf meds. I managed to lower my fsh down to about 11 I think from 22 which was pretty bad.

On top of the above you’d want to take a good quality pre-Natal multivitamin and vitamin d.

Feel free to message me if you’d like me to share anything else, I’m clearly not from a medical background and developed my vitamin routine through research and through consulting with Melanie Browne who is a fertility nutritionist - however things like testing your dhea and testosterone you need to do that yourself x

I also had a low AMH of 3.5 aged 32 and also tried for 3 years with no joy. Was about to start ivf last year but fell pregnant naturally!!! I honestly never thought it would happen and feel very very lucky, but just proves there is every chance it could happen for you too. My consultants both said it’s possible, may just take longer and that it’s egg quality versus quantity. Remain positive and strong as there is still lots of hope for you. Xxx

Hello nmhbaxy,so sorry to hear this.I am 33 with a low AMH (6) , we had 3 rounds , first round no fertilisation, second round 1 3 day transfer and bfn. This time round I took DHEA for 3 months , had a really good round and am now 4 weeks pregnant ! I would definitely consider trying another round using DHEA.

Hey JaneHaley massive congratulations to you that’s amazing news! I’m definitely going to try DHEA..I think I’m going to do a finger prick test first. Is there any other vitamins you took?

Thank you so much. I did the finger prick test before my second round and it said my DHEA levels were fine so I didn't take any then had a failed round. I then had a consultation with a private clinic and they told me to take 75 mg without doing any blood tests on me and I really believe that is why this round worked. Also took Ubiquinol but I did that for the failed round as well.
