Alcohol before FET

What’s everyone’s thoughts on a few wines before FET? I am due my FET in 5 weeks, starting meds in around 12 days time. I am meeting a friend this weekend & it’s been 4 years since we last got together. What now with the restaurants open I would love to be able to have a couple glasses of wine & a cocktail and not feel guilty! I am doing DE so my embryos are already on ice and good quality (4bb). I have so far had 3 failed transfers and did everything by the book. I am physically very fit, eat extremely clean and I can’t seem to find any information online around the impacts on alcohol before FET only for women doing OE!!! This process is so stressful, we seem to give up so much don’t we.

TIA xxx

I’ve had a DE round, had an embryo put back on the 14th March. I think my last alcoholic drink was mid February, mainly because the embryo was put back during a medicated cycle and I didn’t know what the effect of alcohol would be with the meds

Thank you for your response. So hard isn’t it 😭. I won’t of started any meds. I am not due to start any meds until the 17th May? My cycle is also medicated too.

It’s a judgement call really, do what you feel comfortable with x

Don’t be hard on yourself. Life has been hard enough with Covid, IVF and the rest. Have a few drinks and a laugh with your friend. If you feel like you will have the regrets the next day then it’s not worth it. Just remember It’s not like you are binge drinking all the time. I had a few before my last transfer and I’m drinking on Sat at my friends birthday; 13 days I start my meds for my next FET. It’s what you feel comfortable with. Remember people get pregnant and drink without realising. One night before you start your meds is not going to hurt you. That’s my opinion anyway. Good luck! Xx

Thank you so much for your reply. From reading all your replies on this thread it seems to be it won’t hurt (I knew deep down it wouldn’t) but you know how the Ivf brain works. I wish you all the luck in the world. Sounds like we are transferring around similar days ❤️ Good luck xxxx

I totally understand. I used to drive myself crazy questioning every thing I did but I now feel that could have more of a negative impact. Saying this we are human and can’t help it. Just remember you’ve done the hardest part of making the embryos, so you can relax a little. If it doesn’t work out it won’t be because you had a drink. At my last transfer I told the nurse I had a few drinks the night before. This was at my first scan before starting meds. She just laughed at me and said it okay and to just relax. Hope everything goes smoothly for you and it works out. I also have 4bb’s on ice. Fingers crossed it works out for both of us. Keep me posted on how you get on and enjoy your catch up with your friend. 🌸🌸🥰🥰 xx

I asked my nurse before mine and she said I could enjoy a drink or two all the way up to transfer, and should stop then. I'm on a short medicated cycle with fyremadel and oestrogen patches with transfer next week, and I've had the odd cider or G&T over the past couple of weeks. As other posters have said, it's what your comfortable with, but you can always ask your clinic to be sure. Good luck xx

I decided on my last FET that I was going to continue doing everything that I usually do to try and limit the impact having treatment has on your life because it’s hard enough, the only thing I changed was cutting down on caffeine to one coffee a day and I enjoy a couple of glasses of wine on a weekend and I decided to stop this once I started medication and I got my BFP on Monday 💗 so I’d say enjoy yourself your on medication for weeks before you have the embryo transferred so it will have no impact x

Yes! I had a few drinks the weekend before my Wednesday transfer, I had a positive yesterday - also a medicated FET and a 4BB. I don’t think it’ll make any difference. We put enough on hold let alone a little bit of alcohol. Go enjoy 😆 xx

I think you’ll be fine to have a few drinks prior to your transfer, in fact I asked my doctor this over Christmas as I was due to start a medicated FET and she told me to enjoy myself and that a couple of glasses won’t harm me! Best of luck xx

Not going to lie to you I’m on my 10th transfer. Transfer 9 I got pregnant and sadly miscarried due to a hematoma. And transfer 10 I am now 6w4d... I didn’t do anything I was not ‘meant’ to do for 8 transfers then I got fed up and just let myself relax and look what happened! Two pregnancy’s. Do t put too much pressure on yourself!!! Do what you need to do. Having a few glasses is totally different to getting smashed every night. Xxx enjoy yourself we only live once! Xxx

A couple of drinks before a FET and before you have even started any meds will not hurt, in my opinion. I drank (in moderation) over xmas, started downregging boxing day, then had 1 or 2 drinks NYE then completely stopped in time to start other meds. And had a successful transfer! A nice relaxing time will do you good! Xx

You haven’t started your meds so 100% go for it!! (In moderation) a few wines won’t hurt! I’d personally just stay clear once starting meds. Enjoy yourself & best of luck! Xxxx
