COVID before FET

Hi all

I am due to start meds for FET with my next cycle in about three weeks. However I tested positive for COVID last week. Our consultant recommends we wait another cycle now, but it is up to us. They said they always advise another cycle going into a fresh cycle, but there doesn't seem to be much research on FET success rates. I have long cycles so waiting again would add another 5 weeks to an already lengthy wait since our freeze all.

Has anyone started a FET the cycle after COVID and had success? Or did your clinic advise that you wait another cycle?

Not exactly the same but my colleague had covid dec 19 and then had a period even though she'd been through menopause. She had already been on HRT for a long time so don't think it was anything to do with that.I had heard that it can effect womens cycles but this is the only case I know of.

You may want to research this?

I had covid jabs during my FET treatment and actually had covid 7 months pregnant. I was fine for all.

I suppose we're all different. It may be that the clinic are covering themselves so that if it doesn't work then they can say they advised you to wait.

I would think about waiting 5 weeks (agonising when everything seems to take forever) or wasting an embryo if it may not work?

It depends how many you have in storage, age and any other factors that are important.

We have three normal embryos and one low level mosaic. Yes I know it would be absolutely safest to wait. But I do know that some clinics are happy to proceed on the next cycle after covid if it’s a FET. So I just don’t want to wait if it’s unnecessary.

It will be a medicated FET so it doesn’t really matter if my natural cycle is messed up. I have had covid before and it added a week to my cycle. So if that happens again it just pushes everything even further away anyway!

I completely understand. Every day feels like a week. I suppose if you feel healthy and ready you could try but then if it doesn't work be strong enough not to blame yourself for not waiting? Mental health is so important during this time. It is so easy to get consumed by the what ifs and the guilt of every little thing you do or don't do.

Whatever you decide, good luck and look after yourself x

Hi,No success story here, but I got covid 2 days before the cycle I was going to do a FET on and had to cancel, so I had covid at the same time as my period and thought they would make me skip a cycle, but they didn't. My periods are like clockwork, but this one was a week late which is really unusual. I'm thinking I should have waited, but I've started meds and my transfer is next week.

Whatever you decide good luck.

X

Hi hun, I hope this might help you decide:

I tested positive for covid 17th of Jan

Had very light symptoms (sore throat, tired, that was it) so didn’t even tell my clinic.

Started FET medicated on 11th of Feb so that was 3,5-4 weeks after testing positive. I figured as I wasn’t really unwell plus another few weeks to egg transfer it should be fine. (Fresh transfer might be different of course due to egg quality etc)

Had my egg transfer 4th of March and now 12 weeks pregnant.

I really don’t think covid had any impact especially as it was a FET. But if in doubt wait a cycle but I was like you with irregular cycles and just wanted to crack on. Not sure how many weeks between testing positive and starting meds there will be? And how ill you were/are? That might change things of course.

Either way I hope the next FET will be your successful one!

Hi Riri, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I first tested positive on 4th May. The absolute earliest I would be starting meds would be about 30th May, but I suspect my cycle will be longer than usual because of egg collection last cycle.

I have had symptoms - headache, mild chesty cough, sore throat. But no high fever, shortness of breath or anything.

I might just wait and see when I ovulate so then I’ll know how long this cycle will be. If it’s super long anyway then it will be a fair amount of time between testing positive and the transfer anyway.

That sounds like a sensible idea! If your cycle is delayed and some good time has passed and you feel no after effects of covid maybe go ahead but if any doubt wait till the next one. Let’s hope it will be a positive one 🥰

And thank you! 🥰really excited after all the bad stuff prior so hoping this now goes on as a straight forward pregnancy.
