Hi all, I’m due to start my next round in a couple of weeks but Im certain my age group will be called forward at the end of May to have the Covid vaccination.
I’m just wondering what other people think or if there any success story’s whilst doing both at the same time. My consultant said today to go ahead and have the vaccination and also carry on with my FET round but at the same time they don’t exactly have a lot of statistics to go on so how do they know they are advising correctly.
Help.....I’m stuck and don’t know what to do 🙈 xx

Hi Iamtring150, my consultant has advised not to take the vaccine during ivf cycle. It’s safe to do so but she said the side effects might impact how you feel and they won’t know if it’s the vaccine or the ivf medication. She advised to leave a week between jab and start of cycle and no vaccine during cycle.
I was also going to delay cycle but have decided to go ahead and delay vaccine as the advice on vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) during pregnancy has changed - studies now show they are now safe to take.
Not sure I have helped but think you need to do what’s best for you! I just couldn’t bare delaying my cycle😅
There’s just no consistency and consultants seem to advise so differently, like you there’s no way I’m delaying my cycle, Iv waited long enough and the fact that there’s no real supporting evidence right now, I’m certain I’m happy to delay having the vaccine for now x
Hey, I had a consultation this afternoon and I was advised that I could have the vaccine before I started a cycle but not during or after the cycle, if it’s successful. I’ve also been given an information sheet that says if you have your first jab and then find out ur pregnant, the advice is not to have the second jab until after the baby is born. Things are changing but like you I’m keen to start straight away so I’m going to delay the vaccine for now.

I’m also in a really difficult situation as no one in the family knows we are doing IVF, 4 years so far we’ve managed to keep it under wraps and all the talk seems to be about is getting this blimin vaccine and saying I’ll be next etc🥺 if only they knew! If I don’t go for it, I’ll just need to say my blue envelope didn’t arrive 😂 x
My docs also recommend everyone under treatment to do it too. I’d do it. Better now then when you are pregnant or worse get it while pregnant. I don’t think there is any indication that taking the vaccine while doing IVF is dangerous…
I personally don’t think there is enough data to claim it’s safe, it’s still so new and just makes me feel so uneasy doing so while going through IVF.
I’m 41 and pay privately for my treatment so maybe I have also have those factors at the back of my mind adding to the mix.
Also if I had now, and became pregnant I wouldn’t be able to have the next dose until the end of the pregnancy so in effect the first dose would become nil and void due to the length of time in between injections.

I had my 2nd dose 2weeks before fet which I think is a decent gap.
Mostly there’s not any side effects to worry about with the vaccine, my only worry would be if a fever from the jab affects implantation.
It’s definitely a personal choice, If My vaccine was due during a pregnancy I’d probably delay it till after birth and just wear a mask/social distance etc.

Hi Nala, it’ll be a frozen transfer using the last two embryos I have in storage, so obviously want to give it my best go possible without something being thrown in the mix to potentially jeopardise my outcome x
Totally agree with you. I'm 42, and my next cycle this summer will be my last shot. I'm especially concerned about how the rare clotting side effect might impact IVF. I went to my 1st jab appt at Guys Hospital in central London. The person I saw asked ''What is IVF?'' 😓 I felt so uncomfortable and left without taking the jab...
I told the nurse at mine that I was trying to get pregnant and was undergoing IVF (due to start a next cycle in the summer) - and I was able to ask for Pfizer - which has had more studies done related to pregnancies. I basically didn't want to be in a position where I might need my second dosage around the time of my cycle start and then have AZ when that one currently doesn't have the trials to support knowledge around pregnancy.
You were very lucky to be offered an alternative! I was just told ''you won't get Pfzier, you have no choice.'' 😕 I will talk to my GP and see if they can offer me Pfizer.
Yeah definitely fight it. The latest advice is for them to offer Pfizer and Moderna where possible to pregnant or soon to be pregnant women. Basically the nurse asked me 'could you be pregnant' so it was a good opener. Talking to the GP is a good route in.
I was a bit lucky cause they had Pfizer - and I had some insider knowledge that if they have more than one in the centre, you are able to request which one you want if you have a good reason.
Oooh jeeze what a horrible experience for you!! How can someone in this day and age not know what IVF is!! What the heck!! It must have been really hard for you making the decision of it being your last cycle 😕 hope everything works out for your cycle and you get your happy positive news xxx
I'm about to start down reg and received this leaflet from my clinic, issued by the British Fertility Society and Association of Reproductive and Clinical Scientists. It basically says to go ahead with the vaccine unless you are very close to treatment procedures (e.g. egg collection), but to consult your clinic to discuss timings.
Covid is just adding so much stress to the IVF process isn't it, even now the vaccine is here! 🙄 x
I was advised it’s totally fine to get the vaccine before treatment, but not in the middle (you don’t know how your body will react so best not introduce new elements to the equation). I’m trying to get my vaccine before we start stims, otherwise if we manage to get pregnant I’d wait till 12 weeks before getting the jabs x
Hi McQueeny, if it’s possible to have prior to starting treatment then I may need to look into that as an option. No idea where to start but I’m guessing google will help x
I know, it’s tough as the guidelines don’t accept it as a reason to ‘skip’ the queue, so if your age group hasn’t been called forward yet it’s down to finding a doctor at the vaccination locations whose willing to help out.... I’ve had no success yet! Good luck xx
Hi Haf05, yes, I’m right there with you, I totally agree. I’m the same and not high risk either. The professionals just haven’t taken IVF into consideration at all.
I’ll wait n see the outcome of my treatment and then make a call on it.
Latest advice is that you can have it before IVF / conception and otherwise wait until after the first trimester. It’s a personal choice obviously. First data is coming in from women who fit the vaccine whilst pregnant and babies have been born with covid immunity which is reassuring.
I’m wondering if it is possible to ask for the vaccine early prior to starting or do you need to wait in your blue envelope being posted through the door?
I asked and they wouldn’t give it to me. I am 36 and it was 55+ in my area at the time. The doctor I spoke to wasn’t my regular GP and wasn’t particularly helpful. I am sure if you have a good relationship with your GP she would offer you one now. 🤞🏻
I did my FET on the 14th and got my first dose vaccine on the 26th. My HCG says I am pregnant! My second dose is in less than 2 weeks from now. I just went ahead and did. I know there is not much data out there.. but since the vaccine does not have any live virus, I assumed the risk may be kind of lower...
I’m 10 weeks and 1 day and won’t be having the jab, as there is no extensive research as to say what the effects are in years to come. I certainly don’t any to look back in 5 yrs time if there were issues and wonder if it was due to this vaccine
I think you need to also look at the stats, how many people are getting infected, hospitalised and dying - not very many!! I had my first appointment with the midwife last week and they gave me a leaflet which basically states pregnant woman are no more or no less at risk then anyone else.
I had decided over the weekend not to have it but decided to ask my clinic to double check. ( I’m 40 and on day 4 down reg) I have literally just got off the phone with my consultant. Her advise was to definitely have it ! That I can have it during ivf and when pregnant no problem! Although she advised only to have Moderna or Pfizer and not A Z .
So I contacted my gp to request this. They’ve said no Pfizer will be offered as it’s needed for the second jab for all the people who have already had their first one with it.
And they have no moderna vaccine in the borough or any word of getting it yet. So I’m back to where I was...... not having it 🙈
Choice was kinda made for me. For now anyways.
I do find it so conflicting though , everyone on here seems to have had different advise.
Sooooooo after all the fuss, today I received my blue letter to have the vaccination on this coming Monday! Can’t believe it!!! I decided that since it’s arrived early I’m just going to have it done as my down reg doesn’t start until the 22nd May. I’m hoping since I’m having it done before hand I get the best of both worlds 🤞🏼x
My doctor advised me to get the vaccine. I was able to squeeze it in between two FET transfers and had a good 4 weeks between the second dose and embryo transfer. Although I would be more hesitant to get the J&J or Astra while on high doses of estrogen and the other meds - no scientific basis for that just my own feelings after reading about the few cases of blood clots happening mostly to younger women. I feel good that I got the vaccine overall.
