Bleeding on progesterone 2WW

Can anyone shed light. Our FET has clearly not worked as I’ve been spotting since day 4 post transfer (I know some will suggest this could be implantation but I this is our 4th transfer & it’s happened every time). I didn’t think you could actually come on period while taking progesterone (twice a day)? It’s definitely light period today not spotting. Any thoughts/help/advice/similar stories grateful. I’m obviously feeling so sad & helpless now. Thanks team xx

Sorry to hear you are spotting.

I have always bled early on all my failed cycles. The earliest has been at 6dp5dt and I have had a full period as early as 8dp5dt whilst still being on progesterone

When I asked my consultant about it he said it wasn't that progesterone was too low it was that my body knew I wasn't pregnant and so all the other hormones had dropped and the progesterone alone wasn't enough to prevent the bleeding/AF.

However 4dp is very early as you could still be trying to implant so I would definitely talk to your consultant if you are sure it hasn't worked.

The one time mine did work I started bleeding at 5dpt and it was like a period and I still got my BFP, I ended up MC later but that was nothing to do with it - so it can happen.

Good luck x

Thank you for replying. Have you gone on to have success now? I hope so. I’m now 6 days post transfer, spotting started on Saturday and by today (Monday) it’s light a light flow when I pee. It’s so devastating to have failed again but good to hear it’s not low progesterone as that’s my major major worry xx

How many embryos did you transfer? I was told that it could have been because I had transferred several. I don't know if you want optimism or not but there is still a chance (if you want some!) xx

Thank you :) I hope your optimism works! We just had a single one replaced. My first 2 were natural cycles but I spotted from transfer right through until I got my period, the third I spotted from day 5, this one (4th transfer) spotting from day 4. Sucks 😢

Hey, Have you had your progesterone tested?

In my first cycle I was on cyclogest 400mg twice a day and started bleeding at 4dp5dt and later got my bfp at 7dp5dt. It was bright red and every time I went to the loo and continued for a while, it slowed down as we increased to 3 cyclogest and then 4 .

In the next cycle we did 1 lubion injection and 4 cyclogest 400mg and that seems to have been right.

Unfortunately both pregnancies ended in a missed miscarriage at 9weeks but unrelated to the progesterone.

Bleeding doesn’t always mean you’re out, maybe see what your clinic suggest?

I’m so sorry yours ended in miscarriage. That must be so painful (emotionally) & I really hope you’ve had success since. My clinic don’t check progesterone, they said I’m on enough- lubion injection in morning & cyclogest pessary in evening. I hope we’re not out but in my heart I think we are xxx

Thank you, it is heartbreaking, but we have to keep trying ❤️ Currently in 2ww of our 5th cycle. Personally, I would up the cyclogest. You can’t cause any harm with higher progesterone.

Sorry this is awful to say but with my 1st miscarriage the clinic couldn’t get me in for an ERPC till a couple of days later so told me to keep taking progesterone as it will keep AF away. So if your dose is high enough you shouldn’t get bleeding.

It’s annoying the clinic doesn’t check! I’m so sorry you’re going through this ❤️ Hang in there, there’s always hope ❤️

My first clinic I pushed to increase the progesterone as I kept getting breakthrough bleeding so they were happy to keep increasing it until the bleeding stopped. Because of the total panic I was having hcg bloods + progesterone tests about twice a week upto 7weeks.

We moved over to the nhs for this cycle and they didn’t check my progesterone, they were happy to prescribe whatever worked before.

My understanding is that progesterone supplementation is really important to maintain the lining until about week 10-12 when the placenta takes over progesterone production. So if levels are low it might affect implantation too.

It might not be related, but it’s worth looking into.

Are you going to wait till test day?

Also, sorry! I keep yapping! But when I called the clinic first time they said it’s only considered a lot if it fills a pad in half an hour. I’m really praying yours is implantation 🤞🏽

Hi ladies, felt I should update incase anyone in the future finds this thread helpful, I’ve found the follow up stories useful on this site. We did in fact get a positive test after bleeding day 4/5/6/7/8 pt! I stopped spotting for 3 days but it’s started again so having hcg bloods today & in 2 days. No symptoms whatsoever so thinking the worst but holding out hope xxx

Just replying to my own thread in case anyone in future finds it helpful. After bleeding in most of 2WW (it was like a light period on a few days & I was that convinced it was another failure I had a glass of red wine 😂). Anyway, HCG bloods were fine & 6 week scan all fine. Good luck to anyone reading this xx

We did have a healthy baby girl at full term :)

She was our 4th FET. Im now on the 10th FET trying for a sibling. Similar, started light bleeding (like day one of period) day 7p5dt so we’ll see. Trying to stay positive but my heat feels heavy again. Xx
