One or two embryos to implant?

I am travelling for FET in May to Prague. I am foing with Praga Medica. They can really provide a good service as well arrange the accommodation and transfers. Really supportive coordinators. But, still there are some questions you need to answer yourself. I am in doubt if I will let the doctor implant one or two embryos. They recommend me one. But I think there is more chance to get pregnant with two? Should I be worried about twins??

Hey,

With my first two transfers, I had one put back each time. That was mainly due to my age (I was 30). With my third transfer, due to my previous two being unsuccessful, our consultant suggested we try two. Sadly my third transfer ended in a chemical pregnancy, but I feel like we got a step closer than where we were before.

Before we agreed to the decision of two, we talked long and hard about it with our consultant and between ourselves. We were aware of the risk of twins physically and emotionally, but tbh we would have loved the idea of twins anyway so we were okay to take that risk. We actually made the decision however based on the increased risk of at least one sticking if you pop two back in.

I believe they need to be of similar quality, mine were both 3ABs. But that one you may want to ask your doctor about.

Good luck 🍀🤞🏻 Xx

There is a slightly higher chance that if you put 2 back then your success is increased. However you also have to consider multiple births. Could you manage 2 babies, the expense, do you have support to help you? I put 2 back and we are having twins which I'm delighted about but boy is it expensive and the pregnancy can be hard going on your body with 2. I also remember a lady on here that put 2 back and both embryos split and she got quads!! Not trying to scare you as that's very rare but you definitley need to consider both implanting. Good luck with what you decide.xx

I am current in Prague going through FET I went through Praha medica too this is our 2nd time here, first time we only had 2 embryos and decided to have both implanted as I wanted twins, but sadly they didn’t take ☹️ And I was so disappointed that I had the 2 implanted as had I only had the 1 I could of flew back the filling month and had the other put in, instead of going through the whole thing again. I would say for the extra increase in chance it’s not worth it. I would go with 1 abd have a spare if it doesn’t work. This time I only have 1 really good one to go with out of 5 so I dont think it’s worth it. I’m currently on day 6 after transfer so fingers crossed 🤞🏽

Hi vicky. As you will know, in the UK it is recommended that you have a single embryo transfeer. A multiple birth can present problems, althoguh not always. Wise words from Cinderella. Listen to your specialist and trust him/her. I have had several ladies who had two embryos returned and they both split - result - quads! Some with problems. That is rare, and I wish you well with whatever decision you make, and of course for success. Diane
