Over the past few days I have had some questions in my mind. I would really appreciate if someone could pleas help me clear some questions as I’m unclear.
1) if someone had two embryos transferred and I had a positive pregnancy test does this mean I’m pregnant with twins?
2) if the results were positive and I’m pregnant with only one then what happens to the other embryo?
3) if someone had positive result but was bleeding, could it be it’s one embryo implanted whilst the other didn’t ?
I would be happy with any answers at all 💛💛 x

So I had two embryos transferred and one sticked and the other didn’t . I started bleeding during my two week wait and after the two week wait I had my HCG blood tests on a regular basis which showed that is was a single pregnancy as the levels wasn’t high enough for twins .
No idea where the embryo goes but in the 6 week scan could only see one heart beat and one fetus
A positive pregnancy test will only tell you that you are pregnant, it can’t unfortunately tell you whether it’s a single or multiple pregnancy. Only an ultrasound can confirm that.
If you had two embryos transferred and one could implant, two could implant or none could implant. Your clinic will book you a viability scan, normally around 7 weeks which will confirm if it’s a viable pregnancy and how many you have.
Thank you for replying, this makes a lot more sense. I was just wondering because recently I had two embryos transferred and I wanted to clarify a few things. I wish there was another way to find out before scan haha.
The wait really is killing me because I would love to know! But I guess we both just have to wait! Thank you so much for your message and congratulations xx
I had 2 transferred and am currently 9 weeks with twins
I did have a high initial hcg at 8dp5dt of 159 which put me in the multiples zone but I’ve known loads of people who have had high hcg and just had a single baby
1- transferring 2 and getting a BFP doesn’t mean it’s twins
2- if 1 implants than the other obviously didn’t and just gets absorbed by the body
3- bleeding could mean loss of an Initial twin but there is no way of knowing that without having had a scan which first showed 2 scans. But bleeding is more common with IVF transfers whether you transfer 1 or 2
Your respond was very helpful and detailed. It makes a lot more sense now. I actually managed to find out I’m pregnant at a very early stage which is why I thought maybe both embryos implanted and I have had no bleeding either. I guess it’s all a waiting game now.
Thanks for this post and the replies, we were asking the exact same questions yesterday although we’re further behind than you - we had our 2 embryos transferred yesterday on day 3. I don’t think the clinic expect both will take as our lead embryo was just a ‘fair’ grade (5 cells on D3) and the second guy jus made it over the line getting to 4 cells an hour before transfer (4 is the minimum for transfer in our clinic), so poorer quality again. We were just glad we didn’t have to leave the second one behind and that they both have an opportunity to keep growing. We’ve just made the minimum level required at each stage so we’re delighted to get this far. Hoping for a relatively quick 2WW now!
