How to prevent thrush

Hello wonderful people! Always here for advise 🙂 I had horrendous thrush during my last failed cycle and I’ve just started my pessaries today and already worried it’ll come back again. Any suggestions as to how to prevent it? I’m already ditching the panty liners that I used before but is there anything else I can do? Thanks xx

Is it cyclogest? If so can try them at the back instead (utrogestan you can’t) x

Ah I feel for you. I have the same problem with the cyclogest. Agree with Orla9298 back door for cyclogest pessaries. I also eat plenty of fagé yoghurt (2 large spoonfuls with breakfast every day) and seems to keep it at bay. Check with your clinic but I've always been told I can use the canesten pessaries and cream to treat it during treatment.

Good luck XXX

I’ve got cream from the last time that I can use if it comes back thankfully just don’t want it to lol. I know I’ve read on here about going up the back but the clinic never suggested it. I’ll try the yoghurt too, similar when you’re on antibiotics eh, to have yoghurt, so will do that!xx

Yep definitely acidophilus yoghurt helps. Also trying to get as much air down there as possible. And cotton undies.

Thanks! Will get some of the yoghurt too! Thankfully don’t have it now but it’s just to prevent it, it was awful last time 🙈

Yes I had it before my last FET and it was hideous! Must put it on my shopping list this weekend!

It’s so hard isn’t it?! How are you going?

Jam-master profile image
Jam-master• in reply tokiwibaby

Yeah not too bad thanks, cramping quite a lot, which can be a bit unnerving as you don’t know if they’re good or bad lol. Best of luck today! Is it you’re prostap you’re in for or bloods or what?x

kiwibaby profile image
kiwibaby• in reply toJam-master

So unnerving! Basically I’ve concluded that you can’t read into any single symptom. So distraction is the best thing! Easier said than done I know! Do you mean for the result? Will be a blood test on the 8th...

Is it tomorrow you have your transfer? I hope it goes well! I wish my clinic did a blood test, that way it would happen quicker! 2 weeks to wait is a long time!!

kiwibaby profile image
kiwibaby• in reply toJam-master

Yes I’m in NZ so tomorrow morning :) 2 weeks is! Can you ask for a blood test?

Just any natural acidophilus yoghurt. I’m in NZ so will be a diff brand.

I found taking a probiotic supplement really helps. Healthspan do some great ones!

Are you using Crinone? I was told by the nurse to scoop any of the left over Crinone out from down below to prevent thrush. It didn't help completely on my latest transfer cycle but was definitely much better than the last. Good Luck!

Thanks! No it’s cyclogest I’m using but it can linger, I have a shower after my morning one so might do the same in the evening once I know it’s all absorbed x

Hi there

I used to suffer from thrush, BV and cystitis. It was awful. I did use all the over the counter stuff and antibiotics when needed, the thing is they only treat the symptoms not the cause....(apart from the antibiotics of course but the underlying root cause is still there even once the attack has gone)- eventually went to see a doctor about it all and he recommended probiotics. I started to take the optibac for women ones and since I started those I have had no reoccurance of anything! Absolutely amazing. Yogert does the same job but I got fed up of eating it everyday. (Although much cheaper).

Best wishes!

Hey,Just some basics you probably already do:

- 100% cotton knickers

- no tight clothing

- fully dry

- take showers instead of baths

- natural/perfume free body wash + detergent

- I know there’s leakage from the pessaries, try laying down for about half an hour after inserting.

- drink lots of water to constantly flush your system.

- reduce sugar intake.

Jam-master• in reply toNala_01

Thanks, do most of these anyway. Although reduce sugar, I’ve reduced caffeine and stopped alcohol, don’t take all pleasures away!! 😂😂😂

Back door! Honestly once you get your head around it its painless and so so so so so much easier - no mess and you can just pop it in and get on with things - absolute no brainer x

Hey. I am currently experiencing this issue. Its bloody awful 🙈. I have switched to using the pessaries via the back door and have got some canneston cream and pessary treatment. I've only used the cream so far as I have been a little reluctant to use the pessary treatment. It is really uncomfortable. What is the best yoghurt to have? Will pop some on my tesco order this weekend x x

Jam-master profile image
Jam-master• in reply toFoxKinder

I can’t use the back door unfortunately as another embarrassing side effect for me is an itchy bum 🙈

Definitely get the yoghurt!!! I eat it every day and I’ve not been itchy at all, and it was absolutely horrendous during my last cycle! I am having the Yeo Valley organic natural yoghurt. A big pot of it! It’s got that acidophilus that’s good for you. Definitely give it a try and let me know xx

Oh they are dreadful things aren't they these pessaries. The things we put ourselves through 🙈.Yes will order some and let you know how I go.

Just need to get rid of this episode first x x
