Hydroxychloroquine to prevent miscarriage ?

Has anyone taken hydroxychloroquine to lower the chance of miscarriage? My doc suggested that based on testing positive for ANA (anti nuclear antibodies) but the the rest of my autoimmune screen was normal and there isn’t any indicator of inflammation from the blood test. He also suggested intralipid drips. He said it will help calm my immune system and reduce the chance of miscarriage . I never got pregnant and have low ovarian reserve so I wouldn’t know if that will be an issue for me. Seems like my limiting factor is egg quality and quantity so not sure if I should take this med before I know if I will even have a viable embryo. However I do want to minimize the barriers to a live birth as much as possible. Would like to hear if anyone has taken it and experienced any positive difference or side effects. Thanks ! X

Hi Linzeeee, I am on Hydroxychloroquine for implantation failure issues and one of my good friends is also on it for recurrent miscarriages. It’s early days for both of us so no pregnancies to report. I’m near the end of my ivf attempts so we’re throwing everything at it now. But I did confirm with my doc that this medication doesn’t reduce your Covid immunity and it isn’t an overly expensive medication (I’ve seen a broad range of meds in my journey). So my decision to take it was along the lines of it probably won’t hurt so why not try it. My friend and I are both struggling with sleep but I read the info in the medication box and it doesn’t say it interferes with sleep at all, so it’s probably just stress causing us to lose sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you so much for sharing how you decided to take it . That’s so helpful to know. The side effects when taking short term seems minimal so I may jsut try it ! Did you start to take it from the beginning of the cycle or even before then? Trying to see when is the latest I can start taking it. X

Yes, took both. I have a 4 month old baby boy. Before I took the meds prescribed by my miscarriage specialist I had loads of chemical pregnancies and two miscarriages. It does work, in my opinion, read my latest post xx

Hello! Do you have an autoimmune disease? All my tests are negative but I do have symptoms of RA (my mum had it) since a bit before starting IVF in 2019. Just started to take plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine ) . 🤞hope it does make a difference for my next FET.
